Sal, Your kitchen looks beautiful! Its such a pain having to choose colours but I guess its definately worth it at the end. Going to order some test pots today and try as suggested. I like the feel mellow mocha gave to your kitchen - bounces back light and the contrast on the other side of the wall - the copper blush! Looking at doing something similar but want whatever colour I choose to flow through our lounge (its open plan) without 'breaking' the feel- if you get what I mean! Hi Colin, The cost difference between timber and masonry is relatively marginal however depending on the aesthetic you wish to achieve and the thermal performance requirement we find timber solutions much cleaner and more versatile. Constructing the extension out of blockwork could be seen as the simpler solution if you choose to render. A conservatory type extension could work but I would advise you factor in what you want to use this room for and how you envisage the new space being incorporated into the existing house and extension. Ie. Will the extension be an independent room or an extension of an existing space? Also see Zoe's own experiences below, overheating is a huge factor. From the photograph it looks as though your existing house and extension are of masonry construction. It would be interesting to know the construction and therefore the capacity of the balcony as this will need to be factored in. Hi, Could I ask which direction the property faces please? There is a lot of potential for the space and getting a fabulous layout. I would generally need to know a bit more information around how you use the space and who uses it in order to recommend a layout to suit you. Have you worked with a designer yet on this project? I would highly recommend it - it looks like a big project and they can help steer you in the right direction and away from costly mistakes. This includes looking at layout and colour as well as purchasing using trade discounts (which can save thousands when it comes to flooring, heating, wall coverings and so on). Not to mention lighting plans and ensuring the design flows throughput... without being 'samey'.
