As your house has a period more country look, chrome may be a little harsh. Polished Nickel could be a better option as it has a slightly softer more yellowish hue. Use a knob with more detail to keep it looking period relevant, a smooth sleek modern knob may look out of keeping. I have attached a photo of a door on a current site of ours ( polished nickel).

Charters Property thanks for your comment - I hadn't thought about that at all, yes you're probably right it may be a bit too harsh? Is there a particular design of door that would be more suitable to this period and style of property or is it more down to taste?

Hi, generally best to stick with symmetrical glazing ( i.e. Not just one long window on one side). For a front door the glazing should be no taller than the solid panel area unless it is stained or opaque glass. A panel door will look correct, either four or six panel ( of which two are glazed) would be the conventional route. The nickel will suit a painted finish rather than natural wood which suits a darker ironmongery material such as antique bronze or black. It is probably more common to pair a natural oak door with an Oak framed porch and this as a default will normally look good.

Maybe your architect could do you a 3D image of the door area so you can see the porch in place?

We do them regularly for our clients as it helps them to actually see the space before they make costly purchases and changes like that.
