Disused Office
Now retired was previously Dining room, want to revamp, put in seating area and TV, need to keep Computer only, need a new computer desk also would like some storage for books etc with a cupboard/bookcase. Also want to paint desperate for colours, gets no direct light as windows are tinted, also what colours to look to get like seating and carpets. Lightning ideas to, size 13x9

choosing a white or cream decorating scheme to max up the light. A pale carpet
can really help to create a sense of space, although practicality is one of the
main reasons that cream isn’t always the first choice when it comes to
flooring, as people are worried that it will show up the dirt or stain easily. However,

Comments (7)How exciting! Its funny how deep they look when there is no water in them. When you fill it with water it will seem much shallower. First on some practical points the radiator is a slight concern. What you really need is a small air handling package that is linked to the water temperature and that will ensure the air in the pool house is always a couple of degrees warmer than the water in the pool and is circulating to avoid condensation. It would be good to identify who installed the pool (There might be labels on the pool plant) and to get them in to overhaul and recommission it. You could replace the sliding doors with really good quality (Schuco) sliding folding doors so that the whole lot could be opened back on a sunny day. You could get rid of the radiator and make those windows into full height doors as well. The brick walls are a bit sad - but would be a great surface for fixing slate, stone or tile, and for the floor you could look at a non-slip ceramic porcelain large format tiles. We use Solus Ceramics. http://solusceramics.com Lighting is always tricky - if you put lights in the ceiling over the pool it can be hard to change the bulbs. We have got round this in the past by using fibre optic projector lighting (One central lamp and the light is conducted along inert glass cables to the fittings) but it is quite an expensive option, or instead uplight the ceiling using floor or wall lights. Comments (27)Well I may have had an over-reaction last year when I found out the neighbours had rats AK! But it was at the time the apples were falling and they were in the area of the compost bin and I found a hole right on the boundary which a friend said that was a rat hole. Actually just writing that is raising my blood pressure! But anyway, I do have a kitchen sink waste disposal and I do have another compost site at the start of the private lane that leads to my property where I take shrub or hedge cuttings that couldn’t be used for anything else because there’s lots of trees close together. And grass goes to in the council bin and I shred leaves and put them on the borders. I suppose I might have a phobia?? Comments (7)I agree with Jonathan, these things don't really add value, they just make a house potentially easier to sell, as opposed to increasing the price someone will pay. They're probably just less likely to knock you down on your asking price. Our Warwickshire office took part in anITV programme hosted by Linda Barker about adding value to your home and the results of the valuations before and after were quite suprising in some cases! We've since found that despite property prices in neighbouring Gloucestershire being already high, adding a well made, oak framed outbuilding really does make a difference to the value of the home. 9 years agoI agree with above with regards to painting it light to keep it bright. A mirror will also help bounce the light around the room.
Perhaps a ladder desk unit would work to act as a desk and bookshelf without taking up too much space.

I would consider a built-in desk/TV/bookshelf as this will save space and make the room feel a little more complete. If you bespoke built the shelving, then you could install some linear lighting within it to create an indirect and ambient lighting environment. The picture below gives you an idea of what this effect might look like. Then for the remainder of the room I would consider up/down wall lights such as the Milan Iluminacion Dau (second image below) or maybe add in a floor lamp for task lighting.
