Hello again!! Just short of 2 years later, my den is finally finished and looks pretty much like how I've envisaged it. Few months ago, I was extremely lucky to meet this carpenter who is really good and doesn't mind building my 'designs' :)) and we got to work. As you'll notice, in planning the space, I've used a mixture of your ideas above: it has a secret door, a (folding) desk, it's a bit of an art gallery and has a few other surprises! The initial plan had to be altered to accommodate my new hobby :)). Almost one year ago, I had this mad idea to start painting (on) glass and then to make silly clay figurines, so I adapted the space to suit my pursuits (like the slightly tilted shelves for paints, peg board for scissors, top shelf for expo, etc). Plus, you can't really tell which of the panels are in fact secrets doors!! As for the rest, I bought a rubber mat to protect the oak floor and I'm using a trolley for the rest of the materials, so it can easily be moved out the way in case we need access to the back. Carpenter insisted on the LEDs, I'm not that keen on them. So, ignoring the arty-farty clutter, what do you think of my space?

I think that is a double-track and they have a second, heavier curtain behind it. But even if they don't, I think that is what you should do for versatility and look. They actually have it built into the frame so it is hidden and super sleek, but I think you can achieve this look if you run it along where the angled ceiling meets the wall. I would take a picture of your room and what you like to John Lewis, or another high end store or specialist curtain maker and ask their advice for specifics. I was just trying to give you an idea that I hoped you would like! I'm sorry I can't be super specific, but I think you need to have these custom made to do justice to the room, the view, and to get exactly what you want.

modernistlover, you mentioned but neglected to detail your lifestyle, or is that included in your gardening ability comment? Followed by narry a sniff of what you want to do in your garden. Now, if the latter is simply to look out of the window at it the lowest maintenance idea you could hold on to is doing just that without touching it. So. 'avin' a larf out of the way, where to from here? It looks to be an appreciable space. Some estimate of actual size would help. IGNORE siren wailings for conifers. They are fine so long as they keep their "miniature" cultivar form. They fail drastically to do so for very long and become a damned nuisance all too soon. After their first pruning they soon begin to look very ugly. I can agree that your willow, assuming that is part of a picture of your garden, is beautiful. In fact, a simple cutting back of the vegetation within the pictured area by a reasonably competent gardener or maintenance contractor (the distinction seems to be in the mind of the hirer rather than the practitioner) would make a world of difference and give you a basis for negotiating a regular maintenance contract. Within which all that grass could well be to your benefit. The cost of grass cutting is generally determined much more by the ease of access, required quality of cut, how level the ground is and difficulty of edging if required among other factors, rather than the area, i.e. amount of grass, to be cut. Which, in turn, could turn out to be very low in relation to the actual area if all you want is a reasonably green and tended looking patch of land.

Hi Everyone, I hope you are doing well wherever you are but I bet everyone's busy at this time of the year. I have been a busy bee myself and learned how to use Homestyler but I must say it's a painful and slow process. I have been obsessed with the floor plan of the small flat for the past week as the time has come to finalize it with the new team. We'll be around 2 months behind the plan which is fine. So I made the decision to not have a loft in the small flat because the floorplan I chose seems to work well with loads of storage. Please excuse some of the furniture such as the kitchen and the colour of the large cabinet, they will be white but Homestyler is quite limited so I had to chose from whatever they had in store. Let me know what you think of the floor plan please. I'm happy with it so far.
