Help for Kitchen
Hi - just in process of a new kitchen. The ceiling curves over so height is an issue. Cabinets in. The extractor has ducting which runs across the top of the cabinets. Currently the builder has put coving (or plinth) across the top of the cupboards. Not sure it looks right. Any suggestions ? Has to have coving to mask the ducting. End panel not put on yet. Should the coving be a) moving back or b) boxed in & painted in white like the ceiling (lights are not flush yet). Boiler pipe also needs to be boxed in but will need access. Thank you.

Comments (18)Homebase does some great porcelain tiles - Luna. The beige (also available in black but won't recommend) one will work well with your units I think. You can use the 300x600 size for the wall and the 400x400 for floor. They are not expensive at all, we paid only around £12/m when we did our bathroom in the old flat, hope the photos below show. Be aware they are very difficult to drill though. The word porcelain says it all! :). For the splash black though, it's been my dream to have a coloured glass one, any colour will go well with your neutrally coloured units. Comments (13)I think that you need to leave a wider gap, 30cm is not wide and I think it will look like what it is, ie stopping the units so they don't get in the way of the french doors. I would go with a 60-80cm gap and make a useful feature out of it with floor to ceiling shelving. I've found a picture showing some shelving stepped back from regular depth units, so you get an idea. Comments (4)I think shortening the lounge is a great idea. Could the new kitchen door go through the cupboard in the hall next to the shower room? This would make the new wall nicely balanced with the window in the new dining room. 9 years agoI agree that looks like plinth not cornice. I thought he would put something like this infront to disguise it.

Keeping them as i said earlier flush with the cupboards and making them look like the cupboards will give a more seemless look. I don't think coving is the answer. The ceiling heights don't match because of the curve, and, you won't be able to continue it around the room. Thus, you could only use the coving as a cornice effect on the cupboards, which, i think is overkill.
