Help choosing kitchen tiles please! For dark grey kitchen

Help choose kitchen tiles please! I’d like to add tiles as the quartz worktop only travels slightly up the wall and the rest is painted and is starting to look messy from water/ cooking. Looking at white tiles possibly with grey/ black grouting? or white grouting but so it doesnt stain. Any ideas welcome! Flooring is large light gray tiles.

You have a couple of options. 1) Remove the upstands and replace with tiles (don't usually have both). 2) Keep the upstands and repaint with wipeable kitchen paint (e.g. Dulux).

Sarah is correct that you’d not normally have upstands and tiles. If you took the upstand off you could have a glass splashback as another option.

Hi, I've now had quartz worktops fitted in a white with grey and mirror flecks (compact lactea) & attach photos. Cabinets are all done too. My next area is what to do for splashback behind the hob/under the extractor. I originally wanted to do red glass across the length of the wall, but we have had under unit lights fitted below the higher cabinets and at night I can change these to any colour I want. If I do red all across I won't get the effect of the lights. Not even sure red would go? The wooden chairs are going and will be replaced & I still need to choose my island lights (thinking 3 pendants hanging). Husband thinks stainless steel sheet behind hob. I'm not sure this will look right with dark glass hob under it & wonder if it is hard to look clean all the time. What ideas do you all have as you helped with the worktops. I also show the dining table and the new open lounge area (intend to put a rug down). We also still need to find wall lights.

Hi Getty Welty What a shame about the worktop but I think it's almost a blessing in disguise. Once you have settled on the worktop my advice would be to take samples of the cupboards & worktop to a tile shop and look at them altogether. You really need to see a large tile together with the other samples to appreciate the overall look. A 10 x 10 sample is only a representation of the whole tile and the colour changes on a larger scale. We always advise our customers to do that if possible as its really important to make sure the overall tones work well together. Good luck with it all Karen

Hi there! It's always a little tricky to visualise without an image but if we break it down the colours you have to work with are: dark floorboards, grey patio slabs, dark brown and mid oak furniture, and a vanilla kitchen. There's quite a mix there and based on the furniture and dark oak floorboards, it seems like the space might have quite a traditional feel? With this in mind, I'd suggest a herringbone floor in your kitchen. A natural oak would work well with the vanilla kitchen units and furniture. Yet, a darker oak could blend nicely with your hallway boards. Or, there's the option of an ashen colour that would lend itself to your grey tiles outside. Hi - you have a lovely kitchen to work with! For your tiles I would suggest to go for white simple tiles to create a contrast to your dark wooden worktops like the below. Your paint colour is where you can really add a bit of jazz to your kitchen, depending on how bold you want to be, I would suggest a teal green or something a lighter. For your floors if you are open to wooden/parquet flooring, you could go for a similar colour to your worktops though I would go a bit lighter to not make the space feel too dark. If you prefer tiles on the floor, I would suggest to go for a neutral but warm toned tiles.

As has already been said, it’s usual to have either an upstand or tiles. Both together would look a bit clunky. Why not use Dulux Kitchen paint which is scrubbable and see how you go?

As mentioned by the others, having tiles and upstands together would look rather bizarre. I’d suggest removing the upstands and adding white or dark grey tiles. You could also add white tiles with dark grey designs to maintain the colour scheme that you’ve got going.

Tiles would also be much easier to clean, and if you choose dark grey tiles, any stains wouldn’t be visible at all.

I recently got my entire kitchen redesigned with the help of these kitchen fitters called Saturn Interiors. They took care of all the minor and major details, so I didn’t have to worry about any of it.

If you want to, you could consult with them about this issue. I think they could provide you with better solutions too.
