Ceramic or porcelain tile will do very well. Laminate can "puff and die" inside of 6 months! I've seen it. It isn't pretty. The closest you will get to "click together" flooring = 100% vinyl flooring. The vinyl is water proof...the joint is not. There is still a chance that moisture (water or humidity) will reach the subfloor and begin to rot it out from underneath the floor. Be safe = ceramic or porcelain tile properly installed. I think you can work with a cooler tone in the bathroom. One of the design benefits with bathrooms is they can have their own "presence" in a home. They do not need to be identical to the rest of the home. They can carry the theme...but they are allowed their own flare. Go with something that is visually interesting. It can be a breath of fresh air if the rest of the home "all one look".

I have just gone through this process. My plumber and the specialist tiler each made the same points: (1). Around the "heavy water flow" areas, mosaics are higher risk. The weakest point for water getting in is the grouting. If you use small tiles, you maximise the chances of water damage simply because there is more grouting. (2). Very large wall tiles make their lives more difficult. I used huge wall tiles (90cm X 30cm) and they both said that those very large tiles are more difficult to ensure a completely flat surface. The plastered walls are never completely flat and even and it is easier to adjust adhesive levels with more regular sized tiles. Not a reason to avoid massive tiles (although they seem to be more expensive) but just be aware. On the upside, there are fewer grout lines, so less likely to get water damage! (3). If you get a heavily textured tile surface, it is much more difficult to get a really clean tile cut when they need to trim them. Can result in higher wastage as a result. So, overall, I'd avoid mosaics other than as a trim in bath or shower areas. To keep costs down and make the job faster, go for a smooth wall tile no bigger than 60x40cm. Or ignore all this and go for what you love!

I wouldn't change much regarding the layout/placement of white goods either. But it'd be possible to get some extra. For example, an L- or P-shaped shower bath would get a nicer shower space. You'd end up with the wider part by the window though so may then also consider opaque glazing or a screen there. A concealed cistern in the back wall would bring that forward by around 10cm. If you don't want to loose all that space, a boxed-in cistern and shelves above may give you a little storage back. On the washing machine: you triggered my inner geek :-) This may be possible. You need to research a few things for this: A) a slim depth washing machine (usually 425mm) B) availability of a height reduction kit for it (if these are avail gets height down from 850mm to 800mm) C) use an extra-flat bottle trap for the basin D) partly embed that into a thin washtable (to make the surface then a total of ~100mm above the machine) If all these go together it should just be possible to fit washtable, drains, basin trap and the machine underneath into a box about 910x600x500mm (HxWxD) which is kitchen unit height. The countertop sink would sit above that. Maybe a little bit of extra space could be gained still if you'd construct a basin from a flat shower tray with an integrated trap (a Wedi fundo plano is 60mm high) but I'm not sure how to put the washing machine drain on then. Hi. I'm a bit confused, have you bought the vanity and are looking to paint it? Is the rest of the bathroom fitted as you could add brass or copper taps for instance with a matching mirror? Accessories will also warm it. I like a little wooden stool in a bathroom which you can add accessories to i.e. A candle, natural sponge, flannel etc which has some texture. A plant on the window sill if you have one and then nice accessories for the sink and either some coloured towels or I like hammam ones. I've found a couple of pics but they may not post as houzz has issues :( These are using deep rich colours which may bring the cabinet towards you a little. A darker top for the vanity would also work
