What a beautiful staircase! It is stunning! Project Home UK suggested a stair runner going down the middle of the steps would perhaps be more effective than a fully fitted carpet. Hi. I assume the house is light anyway as a dark carpet wouldn't have been an option otherwise? I think you have lots of options as it's so neutral. Follow what Alant did for his room. Or mix white and a brightly coloured chair or sofa. Or add a pale or a large bright rug. Or stick to other neutral coloured furnishings. Or go for a lighter grey sofa and either bright cushions or pastels. Yellows are very popular at the moment and look great with grey. A room will naturally feel warmer when the floor is carpeted and your feet will enjoy sinking into a nice velvet or shagpile especially in the bedroom, also your downstairs neighbours will appreciate it, but nothing quite compares to the look and feel of a beautifully stained or varnished solid wood floor and a well laid and maintained floor will always add value to a home.

Hi Simone, We can't help but love parquet in a hallway and feel it would work well with the traditional look of your carpet and stairs. What colours are your surrounding wood floors? You're right that parquet wood floors have a mix of tones which could help the hallway to blend more seamlessly with the others.
