What do you prefer - Traditional Fireplaces or Contemporary Stoves?

I think it depends on each individual property and how they are styled...For me personally, it's definitely got to be a contemporary one...It compliments the clean lines in the house perfectly.

@cinderellaslipper - you are right! It is Kyffin Williams, MIL has quite a few of his paintings. Also, she has great taste and sense of style, and is what I call 'a genuine lady'! Contemporary but comfortable. I'm not keen on shiny wooden headboards as I just don't find them practical enough so a nice soft modern headboard works well for me.

I do not tend to go for either specifically. It is what ever I am drawn to at the time or as AJ INTERIOR STYLING LTD said, it is what fits in with the existing space. It is such a personal decision and as long as I am drawn to it.. I do not mind. I recently went to the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Fair and there was so much variety and talent it was hard to choose between a lot of them and what I did like was a big mix!

Hi Rachel, Yes, contemporary and traditional can certainly work together in the context you describe although it's hard to say without seeing a picture of your current bathroom. I've posted a couple of pics below of one of our minimalist, streamline shower columns, the Vehla MySlim Ambiente, which would work really well with the straight lines in the 2nd image you've posted. Every fire place would have its place. It all depends on what your surrounding is like.. in a traditional Georgian or Victorian surrounding l, contemporary would look out of place, the same on the other hand. Fire places, just like kitchens add a lot of character to a room and should be chosen wisely. I like both contemporary and traditional!

My problem with contemporary fireplaces is that they always seem to be half way up the wall - heat rises, so surely your feet will get cold!!

All fireplaces are beautiful features, be it contemporary, traditional or a stove. All of them add a certain level of coziness to a room and can be the centrepiece of any room. Contemporary always have this sleekness, while traditional are mostly majestic and stoves are pure homely warmth. It all depends on the design, they have to work with the surroundings!
