Radiator placement: should it be under the window or on opposing wall?
Comments (12)Hi Elan, the old way of thinking is that radiators would be ideally placed under windows to take advantage of the natural convection that the draught from the window would create and because the window is already a wasted space in design terms anyway. However, as many others here have said, with the advent of double and now triple glazed windows, the effects of draughts is minimal. I see that you have positioned it under the window anyway and we would recommend this in most instances as you are less likely to block the heat with furniture and it is more likely to heat your room efficiently if it is placed under a window. Just bear in mind that long curtains draped over the top will be incredibly inefficient practice - as you would lose heat through your window (double glazed or not) and remember that if you are using Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) with your radiator, be sure that you turn them up gradually as this will help to adequately heat your room and be more efficient in the long run. Turning them right up to the top will not heat your room quicker, as that depends upon the quality of your boiler and the quality of your radiator itself. Comments (11)Curtains look neutral as does the carpet. Personally I would keep these to start with and paint the walls a mid grey which might sound bold when originally you wanted white but it will be broken up a lot by the windows and kitchen. If it is possible to get rid of the peninsular the kitchen will feel less imposing. Since the kitchen is open to the living room I would be trying to find a cupboard elsewhere to house this although you can get washers with a timer which you can set when you go to bed and they finish as you get up in the morning. Rectangular dining tables work when you have a straight wall perhaps a circular table would be better here. I would use masking tape on the floor to help visualise furniture placement. Try putting a sofa in the middle of the room, with the side to the front door and it facing the opposite corner to the kitchen....See MoreTrouble with wardrobe space - awkward wall!

Comments (8)You can have custom curved glass balustrades, however, I imagine the cost is prohibitive. ( I don't know, but i bet they're not cheap.) Alternatively, build up the wall to a safer height. I can't see how you get down from the patio, you would imagine that the steps would be in the middle where the wood uprights and bench are in the second picture.www.longlass.co.uk...See MoreA B
