You need the right equipment, you must prepare the surfaces properly before applying and most importantly you need the right paint (that properly bonds to the surface, has UV protection and thermal movement elasticity). Ask your local building control officer, they change the rules with monotonous regularity. However, I believe the return ( which is what you're meaning ), has to be a minimum of 150mm. Depends on your steelwork and the type of door / weight of door, type of fixing, for which you also need building control. They're usually happy to answer questions on the phone! You could also just ask a window / door fitting company.

It's Farrow&Ball Green Blue, so I think you both probably get a point!! Although what you say is interesting because I really dislike the cold feel of the room during the day which might be the blue coming out more. I really like strong blues like navy but can't stand lighter blues and pastels so maybe that is the issue. I certainly prefer the room at night as it has a much warmer feel and looks more green. Maybe we should opt for a different colour after all.

I like celerygirl's second idea with a chunky mantel shelf as I think it adds more emphasis to the log burner. A chunky rustic looking wood would fit with the cosy/scandi look in the room (nice decor btw...well done!). Another idea to make more emphasis of the fire is to paint the inside of it a bright colour, I'm thinking a bright blood orange to match the cushion. For art, I think a gallery wall might make it look a bit cluttered but something like a multi aperture photo frame might work? One in the pic is from Barker and Stonehouse. Rather than photos you could put in some art prints or some Orla Keily fabric samples or wrapping paper, anything really. Tried to do a mock up but don't share Celerygirl's photoshopping prowess I'm afraid:)
