I think you should keep the artwork as it adds colour to the room and makes it look more lively. And I like the style of pendants you are going for. You can always add more colour with kitchen accessories and some foliage if you prefer the lights to stay white. If I had to choose from the two I'd go for the second one. Here are few other options. I cannot make a decision on what colour/design of flooring to choose please help. The new flooring will run from the hall into the open plan kitchen/living room. The new kitchen has a laminate worktop called Oak Lodge and the cabinets are Cashmere. The rooms have good natural ligthing. I think LVT would be good and have numerous samples of Amtico and Karndean but have become overwhelmed and nothing seems to be right. Walls are all very natural soft greys and creams so very safe. I always thought I would go for a wood style floor but not sure if it would be too much with the worktops. I have been living with plywood floors for nearly two years and would like to finally get this sorted. Please help!!!!

Have you thought about internal windows and changing solid door to glazed ones? This might be the least disruptive solution. You could have a glass window/crittall style wall between the kitchen/diner and the utiility. Best of both worlds light and silent when the doors are closed. I would take down the wall between the kitchen/diner and the dining room and redesign it with full height glazed doors or a huge picture window. Have you considered a long clerestory window which would add a lot of light but still be practical? If you provided a few pics of how it currently stands that would be helpful too.
