Lighting!

We are nearing the end of our ground floor project and need to choose lighting today for our new seating area as part of a kitchen diner. It's a typical Victorian semi detached lay out so we've added lots of light at the back with bifold doors and veluxes but I'm worried that the area towards the centre of the house will be darker.
We need to source two ceiling lights/pendants, one for the seating area and one for where used to be the hallway. I'm quite keen on an industrial type exposed bulb idea but my husband is worried that it would have to be quite a dim bulb were it not shaded and so wouldn't add the required light. Have attached a pic of the work in process - the area is towards the back of the pic past the kitchen. Any ideas? Would be good to have some downlights in areas where you walk. Pendant above kitchen work good as feature light but it could be bit dark only on them.

Hello,

I agree with Kluk Construction above that you would need to have some downlights, otherwise it would be rather dark. The pendant over the kitchen island would work very well and you could have the industrial exposed light bulb, provided there are some downlights installed as the pendant on its own would not provide sufficient light. Bert Frank have a lovely selection of pendants that would work very well in your new kitchen and the seating area:

I need to buy the lights for a large flat rooflight 4m wide. I was thinking of an LED strip, but happy to consider other options. What do I need to consider? Do the lights get fitted in a lip nearer the actual ceiling, or higher up towards the glass? what do I need to consider? Someone mentioned you need to find room for a transformer or something? If this is the case where do they normally go when lighting something like this, and do they need to be accessible to change at some point? Any and all advice would be gratefully received, and any pictures or assistance of what to purchase in the way of lip, lights etc.. Hi Laurence, have you considered using recessed lighting uplights to shine up the wall. The reflected light will illuminate the whole room. I would suggest using high power LED Strip like our Samsung Strip, it is 1000 Lumens per Metre and draws just 8.2w of power. If you need it even brighter we have the 2000/m Lumen version. The effect uplighting will create will be less industrial looking than Corn Lamps. I bought a very similar version as in the screenshot. It was perfect for the kitchen. It was perfect for the kitchen. Cute, small, but enough size and power. It gives a nice light, not harsh, properly diffused. And I bought it really cheap. But for my loggia, that`s spacious enough. I decided to buy a lamp that doesn`t use electricity. I found one on amazon, as well as flag pole lights. I think it’s perfect cause the loggia is on the sunny side, so the lamp stores the energy and gives off a soft and pleasant lighting at night. I don't really prefer to sleep in total darkness and this kind of lighting helps me doze off. So, for those who have a balcony or loggia, I strongly advise buying these!

Thanks all.

Lighting is already planned for the island (3 x pendants) plus spotlights and under the cabinets, and more pendants in front of the bifold doors, so the kitchen area - which also has a lot of natural light - is sorted, it's just the seating area at the back that needs separate pendant lighting.
