Backsplash Brick Slip Dilemma

We're in the final stages of selecting our kitchen and just can't decide on if our backsplash should match the worktops or if we should put a glass backsplash over our brick slips. Or just expose and treat the brick slips. It's a personal choice thing at the end of the day but we'd be interested in feedback - especially from anyone that has brick behind their hob - is it a nightmare to keep clean? I've attached a photo of the quartz backsplash and then one that has glass over it (but essentially just looks like the brick) and then one to show the rest of the length of the wall that will have brick slip on it. (Btw the sink is moving to be in line with the hob and there will be three pendants)

Comments (9)We had a similar dilemma with our current project. We had a lovely patio but awkward steps down from the house garden level. With our kitchen reconfiguration we put in bifolds so created a brick built upper terrace to Walk out on to. The builder tried to get us to deck but We had had similar treacherous wet slimey experiences to you in our old house so not keen. Anyway, it's not finished yet but I can see it is going to look fab. We couldn't match the York stone so have a wood effect tile to contrast. My builder reckoned it was £8k of work and materials at the start of the project but we have an all inclusive so I don't know how accurate that would have been if I'd asked for the savings and gone for decking!!...See MoreBrick tiles or brick effect wallpaper?
Comments (5)Hi Panikos, I use wallpaper murals a lot on projects but I must confess I avoid brick and random stone as they can look very false, they need the texture and depth to get the full effect. The point Tamp made was valid, if you use a brick slip it will be the devils own job to get this off later should you want to re decorate so brick slips are a long term decision. Brick slips can look fabulous, worth the extra money...... Have you looked at printed paper rusted steel or old wood planks?.........these are very effective in printed form. Regardless of what you choose I would advise getting a sample and pinning it to the wall for a few days, look at it in different light (day & night).....see it a fresh when you come down in the morning etc etc..... worth the effort to ensure you make the right decision Hope that helps, Martin...See MoreBrick slip chimney breast/wall. Comments (10)Thanks Kat D 🙂. Mine are called Vintage Yellow and I asked the company to order them for me without the red bricks as I wanted to keep the colours more neutral. It’s a good idea to order lots of samples from different companies as the texture as well as colour of brick slips varies greatly. Also a good idea is to do a mock up by tiling some of the brick slips onto a board with cement and propping it up against your wall to see if it suits, since it will probably be main focal point so it’s important to get it right!
