Pendants over an island are fantastic for mood and task lighting - as long as you maintain your extract system regularly they should clear most of the steam/moisture but you will occasionally need to clean the lighting so ensure it is easily removable etc. Be careful with glass over the food area just in case of an accident. Thank you Isla :-) My thoughts were: 1 - leave it as you suggest.... once the room is decorated and furnished we won't notice the alignments or.... 2 - move the far pendant so it is aligned with the front one, which would then be roughly centred between the beams either side of it.... or... 3 - move the rear pendant so it is properly centred between the beams either side of it, and nudge the front one slightly to the left so it is aligned with the rear one Any thoughts on options two or three... if you have another moment...? Or you still think leave each one centred to its space? I do agree we won't notice it so much once the space is lived in.... Thanks again!

You could consider a suspended bar light. This way it would provide a strip of subtle light but in a very modern way. It's also a better look than the prescriptive 3 pendants. This is the only example I can find right now but there are loads of them for all sorts of prices.
