I absolutely agree that rugs can totally change the feel of a room! In my living room, I chose a deep navy blue rug, quite similar to the one in your photo. I picked it because it adds richness and contrast against lighter walls and furnishings, and it makes the space feel cosy yet elegant.

Can you post some photos of the room and maybe a floor plan?

Hope this gives a rough idea showing the duck-egg curtains, white tv units and the piano with the sofa almost the same kind of dark brown colour, plus the light grey carpet. The walls are currently in magnolia. I had a thought after posting the question, perhaps having one wall in blue would look a bit strange so thinking if I choose a light-med grey for the wall behind the TV and the wall behind the sofa, then an even ligher grey colour for the two remaining walls (around the window and the wall behind me). This way we sort of let the curtains be the focus of the room? (sorry currently the room is too messy for a photo so I had used an old one masking the family and window view) Thanks!

I just want to present it differently and break the stereotype - Grey is boring. I would like to present you a project of modern grey and white open plan living room that we designed for our clients. The new owners of this open plan apartment are a young family who bought it from a previous owner. A complete renovation and new interior was forthcoming. They are ambitious, hard-working young people who like to have fun and spend their weekends in a relaxing atmosphere. As young people looking for the modern, grey was their desired colour. Living room with modern furniture, open spaces and white accents. This was their dream home interior. We designed a spacious place to relax, of course with a large super comfortable bespoke sofa in Navy Blue fabric. The kitchen is open plan and extremely stylish with built-in appliances, white shaker kitchen doors and white marble countertops. The dining room is the focal point. The elegant pink legs of the table emphasize the female presence in this modern home. The buttoned dining chairs made of natural leather create cosiness and home feeling.
