I think your cabinets look fne. I would be inclined to update the tiles though.

My first thoughts are a clean and tidy kitchen. I would change the tiling and possibly the cabinet handles to something wooden or shiny.

Yes, the tiles did cross my mind, they don't annoy me too much, but yes, I can see how something plainer would update the look, would probably choose grey subway if I were to do it now, it's the case of persuading the other half, as I don't think the suggestion of re-tiling is going to go down very well lol (he's very practical and of the persuasion of replacing things when they "wear out")

Painting tiles has never crossed my mind, is it something that really can be done with good results? Not so much the painting, but the re-grouting afterwards?

Glad to hear the cabinets don't look too bad, I have to say they're still in pristine condition, whatever stuff they're made of.

It didn't cross my mind that the open side units look dated, they frame the cupboards on each side which holds crockery. Love the open shelves look but unfortunately wouldn't be possible as it'd mean no space for storing crockery anywhere.

If I persuade my other half to make some changes, I'll make sure to update with the results.

Your kitchen is fine I wouldn't change anything the tiles suit the style.

Agree with above. The only thing I'd change would be to stop looking at new kitchens ;)

Thanks so much for all the comments, really appreciate them! Sometimes I feel you get used to things and don't see them the way other people might. Well, my partner is definitely not very keen on re-tiling, understandably, I guess, having done all the work himself, but wouldn't rule it out completely, and in turn I promised to give it at least another year without changing anything and see how strongly I feel about it then.

A S, we did indeed repaint the dining room not long ago in a much whiter shade (the first two pictures are from before so do look yellow) The kitchen walls are a light mushroom shade, can't be white as the cabinets are cream. The under-cabinet lighting isn't quite so intensely yellow in real life, but definitely on a warm spectrum as I don't find cool white very cosy, just personal preference.

Jen P, yep, that's my achilles heel=) Finding something you like more than what you've got and getting worked up about it questioning your choices.

Hi. I would agree the curves are minimal so the cabinets don't look dated. I also think the tiles are fine, I wouldn't paint them personally. I might have gone a deeper mushroom for the wall and a deeper for the blind as per the last pic but I think the room works well. I agree with comments about the wall cabinet that also block a little light. Is stacking crockery on shelves an option? I don't think daily used items cause an issue with grease. The fridge stands out a little to me, just wondered if you'd consider spray painting it? Or the 2nd pic shows chalkboard paint. I'd also add a potted herb and some stems as per the 2nd pic to add a bit of life. You could also consider adding a pendant over the breakfast bar?
