Just realised your in Dorset as well.. may have to use your professional services soon, we have a decent sized house but it just doesnt work, lots of room but hardly ever use half of them.. think its time to knock a few walls out and reconfigure stuff a bit...

It's a mixed bag for me. I like the parquet (if non-slip), and prefer the gold/brass tap and the marble top although not sure what the wall finish is. I prefer however closed storage and even though i would prefer not for the wc to be the focal point I'm not sure there's enough room to have the WD and sink opposite each other? The shower control looks as if it isn't under the shower head which is good although there looks to be little room for showering. I'd also add a niche if possible for storing shampoo etc

Thank you all for your suggestions. It's great to have some replies and I appreciate your time. I know it would make sense to have the shower with the toilet but my other half is a landscape garden and comes in from work covered in cement etc. The idea is that he has a seat by the door to put his dirty boots under, throw his clothes in a laundry basket and step into the shower. That way all mess is contained so when visitors come they don't have to see it but can use the WC. Two washing machines- one for filthy work clothes and one for my nice work clothes. We both work late hours and leave a lot of washing to be weekend. Also if one breaks down due to dirt, cement, occasional nails, we have a spare. I thought about stacking them but thought it might look imposing in such a small space and singly would give me more worktop space. Can I squeeze it all in?

Sounds very sumptuous! I think personally I’d go for all the same colour but some pics of the room might help with more advice. If you did want something different for the back wall then I think it would have to be tonally similar or it might look a bit choppy (if that makes sense). Mid to deep grey goes well with burgundy but with a texture such as grasscloth wallpaper or in smaller pieces of furniture. Rusty orange, dirty pinks, plum purples, deep greens might also look good for accessories. Some large artwork or maybe even a wall mural might help to break up the long wall. Use plenty of lights and lamps to brighten up dark corners and give a lovely atmosphere. I personally like eclectic and traditional styles so think a Persian style rug would look fab and this may help deciding on other colour accessories for the room. Here’s some inspiration:
