I am sure there are many people on Houzz who can give more professional advice but the paints I have used in the past, and which have lasted for many years are: Dulux emulsion wall paint (Matt and satin finish) On some shades I have painted with Dulux, allowed to dry and then used a very light spray of Rust Oleum stone textured spray paint to create a shade with a bit more texture and interest. Water based fabric paint. Paint thin coats onto shade. Rather do two or three thin than one thick. It's really easy.

I know this is a wacky but as you'd likely pay from £45 upwards for the lamps shade. How about buying two of these and adapting the lamps shade to fit? You could than always try to sell (Ebay?) the floor lamp without the shade to cover some of the difference.
