We had a new kitchen installed in our flat in early 2015. We were on a budget so prioritised high quality appliances and worktops and bought cheaper carcasses. In hindsights probably not the best strategy but it was our first flat and we didn’t have anyone to give us advice. Two years on we have noticed that steam around the hob is making the sides of the wall units ‘bubble’ slightly. It isn’t very noticeable yet but I am keen to address that before it gets worse. I thought maybe some kind of sealants might work? We had a similar problem but worse at the corner of our fridge freezer, where the floor upstand has expanded, which I am keen to cover somehow. Finally, there seems to have been some slight movement down on one of our worktop slab. Is that likely to be just weight settling down or should I be worried it may get worse? Any advice would be much welcome, we spent a lot of money on this kitchen and we want it to last as long as possible. Thank you!

Hi, We are finally renovating our kitchen and would like some advice about installing 2 different types of kitchen worktops: granite and wood. We have a smallish J-shaped kitchen and with a separate laundry room which houses the fridge/freezer and washing machine. The style is classical/country cabinet doors in cream/mushroom colour and neutral walls. We have Moroccan style tiles which we installed when we first moved in to brighten up the kitchen, and we would like to retain these (picture included). For cost efficiency, we are considering brown or cream (can’t decide colour!) granite worktops across where the hob and sink will be situated and a dark wood across the 3rd worktop (sample plan attached). Most of the pictures of mix and match countertops on houzz/Pinterest etc seem to involve an island Or breakfast bar, neither of which we have enough space for. Thus would like your feedback on: Will differing worktops work or do they appear too disjointed in a smaller kitchen Advice on granite/quartz worktop colours that will work with the floor tiles. also any advice re: colour scheme for walls/splashback/cabinetry hardware/tiles would be appreciated. most of my kitchen toys ie food processor/kettle/toasrer are grey/black, and the hob/oven/microwave are likely to be grey/black so doesn’t really match with a traditional/country style kitchen! Is it Wren by any chance that you will be using? I’m aware that they do not take into account extra contractors within their price. If it is Wren please be cautious. They have a Facebook page called Wren Kitchen Disasters. There are lots of people claiming their money back through Barclays under S75 as some people are on their 3rd kitchen and it is still not fit for purpose. The 0% finance seems to pull in customers. Barclays are up to their eyes in refunds. Just proceed with caution. Perhapls an independent local kitchen company could quote you a price. They are no more expensive than Wren in fact many times cheaper.
