Hi again. Your room is modern, contemporary and elegant and I'd definitely look to soften the look with a pendant light. I can estimate the size of your room and I agree with you, keep it simple and stylish. Quality, is your key here. Hi Brittany! So glad you're asking about this! Lighting is something so underestimated in interior design, and in particular bathrooms. I'm a bathroom designer for Bathroom Eleven so perhaps I can offer some tips! Firstly, my design colleague Johanna wrote a great blog on this on our website - https://bathroomeleven.co.uk/bathroom-lighting-how-to-get-it-right/ - so give that a little peek! Secondly, as a general rule, I always factor in two things for Bathroom Lighting - Task and Mood lighting. Ceiling LEDs give a great, bright, broad lighting cover for your bathroom meaning its perfect for practical day to day uses. However, at the end of the day, when you're wanting to relax - or for those midnight trips to the loo! - it's really nice to factor in some softer lighting. Under vanity unit LED's, soft wall lights, plinth lights, illuminating recess, or mirrors - all these things offer you that secondary lighting option that can really lift your bathroom! We've installed one in our bedroom, husband designed and fitted it himself. I was the second pair of hands when needed! Wasn't hard to do but lots of helpful stuff on YouTube. We used LED strips, which along with the transformers weren't cheap but we're really pleased with the result. Good luck. Angie

A smart home system can either be hardwired (so basically the lightswitches and sockets themselves are smart. Lightwaverf is an example), or the individual bulbs and plugs themselves are smart (like Philips Hue, TP-link Tapo and so on). I have a mixture of both, and there are pros and cons to each. It is worth bearing in mind that the protocols for controlling smart devices are evolving, and the new ‘Matter’ protocol is intended to allow different smart devices from different manufacturers to be compatible with each other and better integrated with the various controlling apps. So if I were starting from scratch I’d be looking at individual smart devices (which can be added to in an adhoc fashion and more easily updated than hardwired systems) which are Matter capable.
