Thank you all for your input. I need to perfect the art of closing one eye to block out other colours! I was not good at this! I think you need bigger sample cards than I used. I couldn't paint on the wall as there's currently wallpaper there. My local F&B stockist suggested Shaded White which is a nice, "safe" neutral I think and as the room is quite dark, it seems to work better than the greyer shades I was trying. I guess sometimes what you want is different from what will actually work best and Shaded White seems a good compromise. I'm delighted to have got input from you and I'll post some pictures later of items I'm considering using in the room in the hope of some more advice.

The OH sprayed our kitchen cabinets with a professional spray gun, but he did have all of the proper specialist masks and protective clothing etc. He set up a spray booth - inside while the kitchen was being remodelled and then outside in a gazebo once the kitchen had the flooring done. The finish was excellent and where we've needed to touch up, he's just done it with slightly watered down paint on a sponge or brush. We've rollered and brushed units before and spraying gives by far the best finish and soooooo much quicker. We went for F&B Oval Room Blue - the reason being the F&B paints are perfect for use with a spray gun, whereas a lot of "matched" paint doesn't spray as well and clogs the gun. Doesn't the kitchen manufacturers have a standard colour you like or could you choose a RAL colour you like. Alternatively, wouldn't the manufacturers just paint it with F&B paint for you?

Hi! I would use a Color Muse to measure the colour attributes of your flagged floor and then choose a colour, which relates to the hue family to which the flooring belongs. Then all you need decide, is whether you prefer the wall colour to be darker or lighter, but knowing that it will coordinate with the flagged floor.

I think it depends on what else you have in the room. My Mum has a north facing room with lots of yew furniture- she painted it Vardo and it look superb. Given it’s a study it likely there is not much wall showing and plenty of furniture so I say choose a colour that works for you rather than a neutral then break it up with plenty of pics. Separately I have always used Daiseys trick of getting Johnson’s to mix the Farrow and Ball Colour. I’m not sure you save that much but you do keep your decorator happy- I would add that during the pandemic the quality of the colour matching and the quality of the paint at Johnson’s has gone down. Right now I would buy the real Farrow and Ball paint.
