Hi, I have just finished repainting my kitchen myself. Overall I am happy with the new look, but I think the final verdict is only possible after some time (to see if the paint hardens enough). I have used Ammonite Farrow and Ball which is very warm grey colour. It looks nice in dark corners as well. Had to apply 4 coats of paint after 3 coats of FB primer. So be aware of the quantities. I must say that the process of repainting was not an easy ride. I spent overall three weeks (full time weekends and doing some smaller works in the evenings). Preparation is the hardest part (sanding, sanding and sanding), while painting is also a vey delicate process). If you are not afraid of hard work do it yourself! Don't sand a laminate door with a palm sander, you'll likely go through the laminate. Although I usually lightly sand with a fine grade paper by hand..........just to be sure the paint will stick.................with today's products it's accepted that it's not necessary. Use this paint as the primer, being water based it will not restrict you to which paint you can put over the top. Zinsser 1-2-3 ( water based version ) Roller all paint on with a small gloss roller for a nice flat and even finish. Take the doors off also................I know that sounds obvious, but i've rescued a lot of calamities.

Mixed unit colours can look good with a modern kitchen, but I would leave yours one colour. Something simple and neutral like white, pale grey or taupe is easy to live with. I have a wooden worktop and I will be changing it. It needs oiling every few months, and even with that it is not hardwearing. Mine is covered in dents, has faded in places and gone black in places near the sink. Water and wood just don't mix. Your worktop looks pretty good, so fix the end piece on the left where the chipboard is showing. You can get iron on end pieces. So I would paint the units. Lots of people have done this so search “Repainted kitchens” on Advice. Change the knobs, loads for sale online, and change the tap for something more classic like a swan neck one. There are companies who sell replacements doors and drawers, as E D suggests, so that may be an option too.
