Hideous low-e windows!

We have gutted a single story house in deep woods and are in the process of adding a big south facing room which will be the highlight of the whole renovation. The room has many windows, and they were installed last Monday. The windows are just awful! They cast a horrid green/grey pall over the whole interior. I understand the need for energy efficiency, but, dammit, I don't want my new house to look like a tomb. The contractor, building supply company, and even manufacturer of these low-e windows seem to have no concept of VT or VLT ratings. The windows have a VT rating of 0.49 meaning they block 51% of oncoming visual light - a terrible loss of light in deep woods. I have found replacement low-e windows with VT ratings as high as 0.68 (Anderson). What to do!?
