Exteriors Renovating Paint

What colour paint work?

This is the exterior of a barn conversion we are seriously considering buying. Any suggestions of a better paint colour than black to tone down the fierce orange brick?

I'm having the same dilemma, we have a natural stone house with dark brown windows, I'm edging towards a grey paint instead.....think that would tone your brick down too......certainly modernise the outside

I’ve seen similar brick with a pale green/grey and it looks really well. Pigeon or cornforth white from farrow and ball would be good choices

I agree with campo, I would try to ensure the the colour complements the rooms leading off of it. The hall appears a little dark so you could have a look at the warm neutrals by either little Greene or farrow and ball and add colour with art and/or an oriental runner which would suit the house. Or as you love colour maybe paint the walls in ochre (there are some nice shades of it around atm) but I would team with white woodwork in that case as a contrast to the floor

So, I decided on Elephants breath and here it is. I am really pleased with it. That’s the curtains on the bed ( until the paint dries). So, now for a duvet cover, cushions and throw. Any thoughts? The curtains have a creamy detail so not sure that white will work, and anyhow probably not practical with 2 dogs in the house!!

Hi Carmen, Regarding Q1 - I think the first picture of the concrete, would work well as you have warm light coming through to your kitchen so it's a good idea to leverage the light with the look you are after. I assume this is your worktop? Q2 - I'm not sure what you mean in terms of which colour should you use for the cupboard doors. I wouldn't recommend using the same material as the worktop. I would add a contrasting colour from your floors if they are white. It also depends on the look and feel you are after? Do you want it to look light and bright? In which case steer away from darker heavier colours. Q3 - I guess the only thing I would say, is do you have the space to move it to another area? Only go for this option if you know you are going to move it around. Otherwise a fixed island maybe better as you can use it as a breakfast area too? Q4 - Agree on the units not going all the way to the top of the ceiling, the only thing I would say is only go for this option as long as you don't put anything on top of the units! If you do need this area for storage then take the units up to the top. Hope that helps Thanks Rukmini Patel Interior Design

A complementary colour is the right way to go but it needs to be desaturated. The more 'blue' or 'green' a colour is, the more orange or red your brick will look, they accentuate each other. I would go for a grey that has a tinge of something such as French Grey or Light Grey.
