Ceiling lighting

We are looking for a ceiling lighting for our small living room (not high ceiling). A lot of lightings out there are hanging ones which wouldn’t work in our living room as we’d walk straight into it. Our furnitures are traditional/modern, so a contemporary lighting wouldn’t work.

Any ideas what what type of lighting would work in a small living room with average ceiling height?

Can I maybe suggest a light that is fixed to the ceiling?

For example, this one only hangs 15cm or this [one[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/products/paul-neuhaus-kairi-4-light-led-flush-ceiling-light-prvw-vr~92179584) which hangs 10cm.

I think its possible to get various styles and designs which have a very small height that could work perfectly for lower ceilings.

If you have access to a power socket in the room you could look at some kind of plug in pendant light which you could hang from the ceiling over the dining area. You will have to ensure you have enough cable to do this and think about the neatest way to run the cable from the socket. Ceiling Lighting ideas for lounge that will do with a tripod lamp

We have this tripod lamp in our lounge and have 2 ceiling lights but have no idea what fittings or lampshades to put on them. haha yeah totally get that most 1.2m battens look a bit “office strip light” vibe 😅 If you want something nicer, check out linear pendants. Brands like Astro or John Cullen have some stylish options just keep in mind: most don’t have built-in sensors, so you'd need a separate microwave sensor or use smart bulbs + motion sensor. If you’re limited to one light point and need full coverage + auto-on, a good-looking batten or profile light with a sensor is still the most practical option

One idea: Consider the use of LED tape to achieve reflected light, you could consider using a cornice to locate the tape and you wont need any down-lighters if you use this approach as the tape [dimmable] could deliver more than you'll ever need. And you'll have less 'ceiling-acne'

Hi ED. When we work as part of a design team we often find that the ceiling can be over loaded with fittings: down-lighters, smoke sensors, speakers, pendants... if you're not careful you can soon have a lot of 'ceiling-acne'.

In most new builds, or refurbs where the ceiling undergoes work, we try to avoid using down-lighters. A good lighting design can rule these out completely; or relocate to pick out textures or define areas.
