I once read a story about an old woman, who was listening to a younger woman complain about how her husband left his whiskers in the sink day after day. The old woman, who was a widow, softly reminded her that those whiskers meant her husband was alive and still with her. She, the older woman, would love to wash the whiskers of her husband down the drain every morning because that would mean her husband was still with her. So, when my husband leaves me stranded on the toilet with no toilet paper, instead of getting angry, I remember to be thankful he is still here to grab the last piece off the roll.

Jonathan, moving the bathroom as you have was actually Plan A but I got cold feet about the cost of moving the bathroom although I loved the idea of a line of sight from front door to back garden. We only roughly sketched it and having seen your beautiful floorplan I am thinking we’ll regret it if we compromise instead. The bungalow looks so much more balanced than it does at present and has a flow to it, which it currently completely lacks. Thank you so much for taking the time to draw it up so nicely :) love the addition of a cupboard in hallway to bedrooms and one in entrance hall as Rinq latterly suggested (completely agree on need for this Rinq) and access to toilet from garden - have 3 year old and 10 week old so very necessary, as is catching the mud before it comes indoors! Minnie101 I can't leave a whole bathroom in the hall unfortunately, there's too much stuff and not enough space, if I could, there wouldn't be a problem. Travertine tiles are about 24 inches long, 12 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. They are solid rock. The whole room is to be tiled. Together they will weigh over a ton. I'm getting on a bit, so it would be very difficult to heave one of them, let alone a bunch at a time, I wish :-). I have a garage, but it's chokka. Everybody only delivers to the front door since Covid. I hate to sound so negative, but this has been on my mind for a long time, and it's really getting me down. A much more functional layout can be achieved in the existing room by flipping the existing hob and fridge freezer. It looks like you are currently losing a good 30cm or so of potential counter and cabinetry space next to the doorway, and it would give you a longer counter run between sink and hob. I would also add a long bank of shallow low cabinetry alongside the wall between the 2 doorways, which would give you quite a lot of additional storage space without interfering with the walkway or sight lines. Plus the narrow ledge there could help keep clutter off your work surfaces. In terms of dining space, you could lose your unloved peninsula and then add a small table and chairs. You would have to squeeze in the 60cm oven into the main work area, but 30cm would be gained by the fridge move, and another 20cm could be gained by swapping to a 60cm sink cabinet. (I assume it’s 80cm right now.).
