I've laid many wood effect porcelain floors and tend to lay them with a mixture of patterns, usually there is a 1/2 bond, a 1/3 and mix it up a little. It repeats every 4 rows and gives the illusion of a random wooden floor. As onwh has mentioned above check your tiles for a bow before fitting 1/2 bond. Some manufacturers will advise you on the box.

Like the second idea and that’s for the sketches! the mirror we have has a frosted edge around it and unfortunately, is one where the whole unit hangs on the wall (as opposed to ones I’ve had which you fix the back panel on first then slot the mirrored part over it so you can tile up to it. I’m not sure exactly where it’s going to sit on the wall yet as it needs wiring in so the tiles around would have to be done at a later date - awkwardly, ha ha. Shame I didn’t think about that beforehand! Looking at some of the offcuts we have though, we could create smaller tiles and have 3 up and 6 going across. Do you think that would work better than one full and a half tile? The width of the sink shelf only takes one full tiles and 3/4 tile (unfortunately the wood tiles I was buying were discontinued so I’ve got LVT to go across the front and using the wall tiles on the top where the sink instead. Not thought about using the vinyl tiles on the wall though! What an idea!. Not sure I will have enough though as only ordered enough for the WC wall. Thinking cap on ...

Normally I‘d say don’t bother where you can’t see as long as something supports dishwasher or washing machine in case you need to drag it out for repairs. Just enough under the plinth to give the effect of tiling all over. However, we swapped our kitchen almost 2 years ago and wanted things in a different position as we wanted a tall bank of unit and the sink moving. We had to think how far we’d gone with the floor tiles. Thankfully where the sink originally was we had tiled all the way to the wall which was good as that area is now fully exposed. Just something to bear in mind. Be certain that you won’t want to swap things around in the future.

Have you paid for the work yet? I would be asking for some areas to be corrected, especially that bit where the horizontal lines don’t line up in the corner, and anything else that will drive you mad. You shouldn’t be noticing imperfections in tiling when it’s been done professionally and I doubt any tiler would be genuinely proud of that job. Some of it has been done to a good standard and some looks awful, which is odd. I think I’d be praising the tiler for the good bits then asking for the bad bits to be redone so that the standard is consistent. It may be that they left an apprentice to do some of it? Not unlikely in these times when building work is potentially being rushed because of high demand. But it’s your house and you will live with this tiling every day for years. If you don’t say something now, I think you will regret it. Good luck and let us know how you get on!
