Bedroom layout advice needed

I’ve recently repainted my bedroom and am taking the opportunity to change the layout. I previously had the bed against the far wall, on the right hand side of the window, but am now looking at having it in the middle of the room instead. The other pieces of furniture (wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers) need to work within this space also. Any thoughts or ideas welcome!

Its quite difficult to imagine what your room is like without any photos, floorplan or dimensions....where is the door, is there a chimney breast, is it a big room or small, do you have a double or kind size bed??

Sorry I did upload photos with the original post but they’re not showing. Bed is a king size.

Hello! We have more or less the same setup in our bedroom. We put the bed on the wall opposite the chimney, with fitted wardrobes on both sides of the chimney., floor to ceiling. We had to re-hung the door though, so it now opens on the smaller wall. And that also means to move the main light switch!You could even find an old small fire place to put in; even if it not working, it creates a lovely focal point, with a mirror etc...

Michelle, Jojo. Thank you both for your helpful comments and advice. We are going to make a decision and order the bed this Friday. When the bed has arrived we will look further into building a partition wall and see if there is enough space. Michelle, the lights are from bolia.com, they are called “balloon” and look even nicer in person.

Don’t have dimensions but the en suite looks larger than it needs to be. I would move the wall between bedroom and en suite back a few feet then you could have wardrobe storage space along the bedroom side of the new stud wall. As building a new stud wall you could have a pocket door and I would put the bed and bedside tables as in the diagram above facing the window. In the ensuite I would make the shower as wide as possible stretching between the new stud wall and the exterior window wall and put the toilet and basin side-by-side along the window wall

Would this plan work?: Phase 1. Knock the wall (including the storage cupboard) between the current bedroom and hallway and the convert that space into a living room, with patio doors to your garden? As part of this I'd open up as much as possible, the connection between the new living room and existing kitchen - which remains your kitchen. Again, depending on your budget you could maximise the connection between the kitchen and garden. The door into this space would now be at the top of the current hallway ie at the opposite end to the kitchen. Ensure you spend money on insulating this new space, before redecorating this space. It's likely that your budget would be gone doing all these works. Phase 2. Convert the bathroom to a second bedroom. Use the front room as your new bedroom. Move the bathroom into a newly created, linear space between the new bedroom (at the front) and new living room. Phase 3. Build customised storage and laundry spaces into the height limited basement. Design your kitchen in phase 1, in such a way that the kitchen space vacated when the washing machine moves to the basement, that the kitchen unit can be reused for something else.

Your chest of drawers or dressing table could perhaps double up as a nightstand on the window side? The other piece could then possibly go on the window wall, left of the window? You may need to move the bed a little more towards the right.

If you're leaving your wardrobe against the wall you currently have it, I would centre it on that wall (between the corner and the doorway).

I realise there's not a great deal of space, but pushed in the corner is not a good look, I feel.

It looks much better thanks to your suggestion! Do you think the chest of drawers is better facing the way it is or should I face it towards the dressing table?

It might look better facing the dressing table, but would that hinder the 'flow' around the bed?

A table lamp on it may look good (and you have powerpoints nearby).

Ok here we go :) it look ok but does leave a narrow gap between the bed

Hmm... I preferred it the other way around, but then it´s partly under the window and it will be a problem with the voile. Would you have enough space for it on the other side of the bed, so it´s a nightstand. I would have added a question mark, but my laptop is playing up and suddenly my question mark shows a different thingy.

Have to say that I love it that you keep posting photos when you try something out. That's so helpful :-)

You could perhaps turn the chest around and pull it forward a tiny bit so the voile falls behind it.

I think you should switch the dressing table and drawers. Seems weird to have a dressing table as nightstand. You could then have a larger lamp on it

I don't think it's weird. It's different :-) And if you put the dressing table where the chest of drawers is, you'll have the same issue with space, don't you?

Plug in wall lights at the headboard wall might be the solution.

Thanks for the tip :) I think I’m finally done for now, I turned the chest of drawers back how it was, I think it would have been tricky if moved it next to the bed.

I’ve also added the ottoman I had before but am debating whether to keep this, do some more decluttering!

Hi E D, I think so, it’s the ‘Lillesand’ bed from Ikea which is now discontinued. I thought it was a double and bought a mattress which is actually too small.

I’ve had to push it right up against the edges and fill the gaps with pillows for the time being until I get a bigger mattress

Thank you, that’s a really good idea. I’ve just bought some string lights but didn’t know what to do with them so they’re on the head board at the moment.

I considered a wall tapestry or clock (pictures below) but have ordered a macrame wall hanging for the wall opposite the bed, which I hope will add some interest.

It is pretty good for your room.Maybe you can let the string lights around the macrame wall hanging which you had ordered.
