bioethanol v real fire

Please Help - we are just about to start a renovation and hopefully put back many features in our 1800’s home... we are having a dilemma on fireplaces, all of which are currently covered up (grrr). In the main room - Do we go log burner (would need chimney re-lined and opened etc etc as it’s been capped off / currently in its place is a very modern electric fire) or I’ve come across bioethanol versions which would give us the real flame we are after but reduced installation costs too??? We are not really concerned about the amount of heat given off....
