Help with extension plan

We are hoping to have a single storey rear house extension and knock down some walls to make an open plan kitchen living dining area. The problem is I can't visualise the area at all so can't decide if it's too big or too small or what layout to have. I have purchased house design apps and they are not helping at allI have attached our current layout. In the middle is the kitchen (4.4m length as can't see on diagram). To the right is the dining room. To the left is small utility and behind that is the garage.So we want to knock down the wall between the dining room and kitchen. Our initial plan was to also knock down the wall between utility and kitchen and go out 3m across the whole of the rear house but the builders who quoted said it would be too big and 1.5m would be enough. Or to go out 3m but keep the utility area. Another option was to knock down walls and convert the garage and not to extend.I'm interested to know what you would do if it was your house. Thanks in advance

Perhaps you can design an extension of your home for a fourth bedroom. Of course, you'd have to talk to an architect and someone who knows a lot about drainage. If you block or clog the drain when building or pouring the floor with concrete, it could cause your home to begin to collapse. Drainage protects your home from going underground, you know. The water must have somewhere to go. When my neighbor poured concrete under his kitchen, everything became clogged, and he had to call in specialists from drain cleaning in Toronto. He was very upset about his mistake. So be prescient and don't make these mistakes.

Do you actually need more space than the kitchen/dining rooms provide?

Couldnt you just knock through the wall and then get new kitchen in? I would put put new kitchen where the dining area is, and move dining table to current kitchen, possibly put doors from that new dining area onto garden?

Thank you for your replies.

Ellie- both rooms are a nice size but we want to incorporate a living area into the mix aswell hence the extension. Also I don't think the current kitchen is wide enough to make that into the dining room

Jonathan- I look be the plan but I don't think the dimensions are quite right. For example, the wall where the long side of the sofa is is less than 1m in length so wouldn't fit in the current layout. I hadn't thought about the kitchen to the left side though so might give me more ideas to play with ☺️

This is the best idea I have come up with. Although I still don't think it is quite right. Ideally dining table would be next to kitchen. I worry will be too cramped between sofa and table. And there is nowhere to put the TV

This is extending out 2m and going into the utility area

I think you have misread my plan-I have checked the measurements and the sofa is in a space that is the size of the current kitchen width- 2.47m

Thanks. I also like this idea as it leaves the former dining room free to be another room or it could be incorporated into the original Lounge to make it bigger.
