Recessed Lights Help
Hello Houzzers
We are about to have our new house rewired. I'd like to get the lighting right as much possible even though we haven't moved in yet. We are having recessed lights in the living and dining room plus the main bedroom. They will be supplemented by lamps in the living room and pendants in the dining and bedroom.
We only know roughly where furniture will be placed and because of this reason, I'm having second thoughts about the recessed lights. Should I ditch the downlights altogether and just go with pendants and lamps? And what are people thoughts on recessed lights generally? The kitchen, which we are leaving for another time will have downlights btw.
I've attached pictures of our house as it is now. Please ignore the bed in the dining room. After much discussion, we have decided to get rid.

Comments (12)Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I suppose I should have attached an image. Here's my drawing, there has been a few adjustments but it is basically the same. The blank spot is been set aside as a family area. I appreciate the need for good light in the kitchen and I'd like to go for recessed lighting but my fear would be that there would be to many of these lights and it might look like a shop! If I were to opt for recessed lighting how many would I roughly need? Would it be best just to keep the recessed lighting in one half of the room - kitchen or family side? The large circle is a table top where we can eat and there will be a suspended light hanging over it. Comments (7)The best lighting for bedrooms comes from using wall scones positioned on at least two opposite walls. This will give you the cosy, warm feel you are looking for. The scones should be placed at about 220 cm height. In this case I would locate two on both sides of the media unit, and one or two on the side of the bed.
