Recessed Lights Help
Hello Houzzers
We are about to have our new house rewired. I'd like to get the lighting right as much possible even though we haven't moved in yet. We are having recessed lights in the living and dining room plus the main bedroom. They will be supplemented by lamps in the living room and pendants in the dining and bedroom.
We only know roughly where furniture will be placed and because of this reason, I'm having second thoughts about the recessed lights. Should I ditch the downlights altogether and just go with pendants and lamps? And what are people thoughts on recessed lights generally? The kitchen, which we are leaving for another time will have downlights btw.
I've attached pictures of our house as it is now. Please ignore the bed in the dining room. After much discussion, we have decided to get rid.

Comments (19)I like that idea, I can install lights in the bay window ceiling. What I'm considering now, is, looking at my first lighting plan, having the L-shape row of 3 lights around the doors and an additional 1 in the bay window on one switch, but also having 2 above the bed on a separate switch, so you have a choice on where the light is falling depending on whether you're lying in bed or walking around getting ready, I'll end up with 4 lightswitches in the doorway and 3 either side of the bed then, as well as the closet switches lol, the whole room is basically hundreds of switches...See MoreRecessed light fixture for bathroom that supports BR30
Comments (0)I have LIFX lights in my house and I want to install a recessed light in the bathroom that also supports a LIFX BR30 bulb. This is so I can change the brightness and colour to change the atmosphere in the bathroom. I'd prefer to stick to LIFX bulbs as I have them in the rest of the house. When I'm searching though I'm finding it difficult to find any light fixtures that support a BR30 bulb, I'm guessing because it's not a widely supported bulb in the UK. The best I can find is a combined light fixture and fan is a Broan Nutone fan light, but I have no idea if this would in the UK and adheres to the correct regulations. Comments (11)I created a mock-up in TinkerCAD to try to simulate the lights in a 6 spots configuration, with each LED having 40 degrees angle from 280 cm high ceiling. I am now worried about the ceiling being dark and having shadows in between, It looks like I need bigger spotlights probably 16cm in diameter?
