kitchen colour scheme advice

We are in the early stages of decorating our kitchen. My original idea was to go white with bright pops of colour (we have bought a lovely painting which is mostly blue but haven’t bought any other accessories). We have just re-plastered after having a wall knocked down and painted white. However I feel the white is too stark. Perhaps because the room is pretty bare at the moment or perhaps because there isn’t much colour in the room either. We do have wooden flooring and wooden table etc and thought that would warm it up, but it hasn’t warmed it up enough. Maybe it’s because most of the light is coming from west facing windows/doors?

Without seeing it I am reluctant to comment other than to say lots of people have a wobble about their decorating before it is finished. I bet when you have put up a blind and put out some towels and accessories you will feel much better about it.

Like Jonathan said it's hard to comment without pictures, but if it makes you feel better, we have just moved house and all our rooms were white. We had pops of colour from cushions, artwork etc and it never felt cold. The only time I didn't like it was when we had packed everything up and so only the bare minimum was out. I couldn't believe how stark the walls looked. The house looked completely different. So I'm just trying to say the soft furnishings completely transform a space. I loved the white, it provided a perfect, clean backdrop.

😂oh my goodness! We’ve spent a fortune in sample pots! Lots of Little greene, mylands… all the greens in the world! Your tiles is gorgeous!!! Because it’s quite bold, I feel it would need to have a bold, dark colour on the wall to bring everything together! Even if a darkish hallway, it does work 👍🏻. We were set on Calke green until someone on instagram mentioned about green smoke. We’ve got a sample pot and that was it! OH fell in love with it! 🤷🏻‍♀️😂👍🏻

I have dove grey handleless doors in my kitchen but have the same colour all round and on the island too. I painted the walls in Wevet which is almost a white but with a mere hint of grey. You can only really tell the grey tone when it’s against the white ceiling join. On the wall at the far end where the dining table is I have wallpaper to add a bit of interest. Perhaps these are options for you?

If you would like a calm and light feel perhaps a soft off white with warm tones would work or maybe you would like a cosier and snug feel therefore you could opt for a darker colour. If you decide to choose grey try to select a grey paint with warmer tones if it is too blue and light it may give a cold feeling and look to the room. I would move the leather chesterfield sofa in front of the front window inline with the door and move the chair to the other end of the room. Behind the chesterfield you could have a console table with lamps to have some variation in height., large upholstered coffee table in front of the fire to add texture. Colour choices are many that will go with the brown leather. What colourways are you drawn to in everyday: heathers, ambers, oranges, greens etc?

One way to make a room work is to find a colour that looks white but connects to other elements in the room. Some whites have blue in and look very cold, it doesn't take much to shift a white to a softer feel. Some colours look dull on a white background, some look more vibrant so it's complex. Post some images, it will really help.

The plan is a modern white but cosy family kitchen with pops of colour. Just not sure that white goes with this room?

I think the wall colour is ok but it probably feels bare with the absence of curtains at the patio door and a blind at the window

I think a really pale dove grey would look lovely in here and work well with the wood and also the yellow tones in the kitchen. It might not be a bright colour, but just tints work wonders!

I’d also consider painting the dining room wall in a richer colour or adding a feature wallpaper

Yes I thought about a feature wall, the kitchen and tiles will be completely replaced (if that’s what you mean about the yellow tones

Yes the yellow on the splashback and tiles sorry. Well if you are replacing them then you aren’t colour limited. Are you keeping the kitchen as it is?
