What Colour Paint?

Hi. Please could you help me? We’re nearly done with our en-suite and I’m really stuck on what colour to paint the walls. I had thought a light shade of green, perhaps like a sage green but really not sure. I thought a bit of colour would be nice? Pics of the space and wall/floor tiles included. PS. The bedroom will probably have a blue ombré wall and a coordinating shade of grey. Thanks so much!

Your bathroom look amazing! Well done As for the colour, the sage green would be nice, but then it won’t really match your bedroom. So we would go with a blue colour, with grey undertones, to match the tiles. As for the ombre effect in the bedroom, we advise against it, because it’s just a trend and will quickly look dated.

Other options with sage green are nice too, but they convey a more country/traditional bathroom style, which looking at your sanitary ware is not what you’re going for.

A complementary colour is the right way to go but it needs to be desaturated. The more 'blue' or 'green' a colour is, the more orange or red your brick will look, they accentuate each other. I would go for a grey that has a tinge of something such as French Grey or Light Grey.

Mid way after doing first coat of purbeck stone. Obviously needs another coat and the white areas will be painted a brilliant white. I did have Wimbourne white but its too creamy against this

Very pretty fabric. The background grey of the curtains would make a lovely wall colour. I don’t think you need anything bolder as the fabrics are quite bold. A pale grey carpet would be a nice neutral. I think you could go quite bold, if you dare, with the sofa though - bright green or teal, or pink. I think the Parker Knolls would look great in a bold velvet, but if that’s too much then a muted grey will still look great and you can liven them up with colourful cushions. Here’s some ideas, but I couldn’t find many images of curtains like yours with a sofa!

Did you paint the samples on the walls? My suggestion as a decorator would be to paint onto larger sections of lining paper (with 2 coats) and move this around. In my experience most clients paint a small brushful of paint in the same area next to the other sames of paint directly on the wall and them are comparing these with just one coat of paint. BTW if anyone reads this, please help your decorator out by NOT doing this to the walls of painting samples directly onto them. Use lining paper instead.

I'd be more inclined to go for a warmer colour like F&B Shaded white, because I think too much grey/blue in that room will make it feel very cold. Or even something like Oxford Stone.

I think an ombre wall would be spectacular! Yes, it is a trend... but if you like it, go for it! Or look at these wallpapers; good alternative!
For the ensuite, maybe a stony colour would go well with the blue in bedroom... although I love olive green too; I think it looks very elegant!

Try Skimming Stone or Elephant's Breath. I wouldn't do sage green.

Maybe if you’ll use the room to relax a darker colour that will highlight the basin, bath and tiles. Alternatively, a lighter colour may help you feel more energised in the morning.

I think a soft stone shade would go nicely. Little Greene’s Portland Stone is lovely and it comes in 4 different tones. It has a tiny tinge of green. I also like Rolling Fog, another stone shade similar to Elephants Breath.

Firstly, wow, what a stunning bathroom so far. A nice soft sage green will look lovely and you'll have an amazing looking bathroom with a wonderful relaxed feeling. If however you were looking for something with more 'punch' then a paint with some orange tones in it would bring a little warmth and would contrast nicely with the blue planned for the bedroom.

I agree with Opun, a soft sage is warm and would go really well with your tiles but a burnt orange would make a bit more of a statement.

Consider a deep, dark blue on the walls and ceiling. A sage green or stone colour, whilst lovely in and of themselves, may look washed out with the neutrals already in the bathroom. Deep and dark will make the neutrals stand out and also offer a more intimate experience - this is an en suite rather than a family bathroom, so a little intimacy should be encouraged!!!! Add some candles and a glass of red and you are there! ;-)

How about a peachy coral colour? It will keep it light and warm - and will still offer enough of a contrast to really make those lovely grey tones in your floor stand out.
