Help! I want an entry way from my front door to my living space
Comments (7)Looking at the room dimensions and layout, it looks like the dining room is a converted garage and the front part of the living room was probably extended at the same time. Thus your challenge will be removing load bearing walls where feasible. You'll need to get a structural engineer involved but looking at the plans you've provided, I suspect it is as open as it can be without some seriously expensive steelwork and structural pillars. An alternative might be to move your kitchen into the dining room and to knock through into the existing kitchen to give you the space you need....See MoreComposite door with UPVC sidelights - will I hate it?
Comments (13)Morning! We went with a chartwell green wood effect composite door which looks quite authentic itself. We had an original leaded window on the side of the porch which nobody could see which the door people restored and put into secure double glazing panels for the door and sidelights. The UPVC shiny white frame, I don't like so much. But as you see there is a lot of frame so it would have been a lot more money to do in in green frame. It is also safe and keeps the house warmer. On balance, I'm happy with the compromise. Still have plans down the line to redo the front garden (well make it into a garden and not a breezeblock parking lot for multiple cars we don't own - but the previous owners with older children did). Thinking Med garden with low level fencing in charteuse green, lavenders, beige gravel etc. Maybe cypress or olive trees left and right of the door. I'm sure that will improve the whole frontage and take emphasis away from the frame....See MoreTaken Xmas tree down & I hate my living room now! Please help!
Comments (8)It's a really nice room, I just think you may have a bit too much 'stuff' in it. An idea would be to remove all the 'stuff' and just be left with the furniture. Do all the pieces have room to breathe in the space? If not, remove some. Once you are happy about the space between them, take a look at your stuff and introduce bits back one, or a group of three at a time. Then see if the breathing space is still there. As an example, the reading chair is pushed too far back into the corner and is crowded by the other stuff you have around it. If you need the speaker, put the 2 unit bookcase on top of the speaker to move the speaker left, remove the decorative lamp from beside the fireplace totally and pull the chair forward. This may give it room to 'breathe'. Get a standard lamp to pop behind the chair for lighting. Remove the little table too. Use the top of the bookshelf for a couple of smaller books. Your mantle is lovely above your fire but is again too crowded in my view. Lovely things but too many of them. Remove either the grey lamp or the vase with twigs. Remove either the pic or the flat bowl. Then have either (from the left): twig vase, candle holder, picture, candle holder, grey vase. Or grey lamp, candle holder, flat bowl, candle holder, grey vase. If you see what I mean. Great idea from Sonia too. Swap the lamp behind the chair for the standing lamp. Put the lamp from behind the chair on you lovely sideboard. That then gives that piece room around it too. Doggie box can then be centered under those pics as well. Lovely doggie too :)...See MoreHELP- I’ve made my new bathroom look dated. what can I do?
Comments (60)If space is your priority, perhaps the second toilet would be better? What brand is it, btw? I will eventually be redoing a bathroom (had planned to do it this year, but gas price rises have made me decide to install a wood burner instead). Really like the shape of this second toilet and it looks like it would be so easy to clean....See More- 7 years ago
