Long narrow kitchen

I’m looking for some advice please, we have a 30ftx8ft kitchen with an additional 3ft added to the width in the mid section (alcove area) leading out to the garden. Currently we have the kitchen at one end, small kitchen table in the alcove area and a comfy seating area down the other end. We can’t decide whether to ditch the small kitchen table in the alcove (we have a separate dinning room which we should use) and create an island or breakfast bar area and keep the alcove area open with maybe just an accent chair so we have full view of the garden. At the moment we feel we’re squashing the table in the alcove....essentially it’s an open planned family space. Would it be strange to have a kitchen/ breakfast bar and lounge Area?
