Floorplan redesign help - do you need a side door?

Hi,
So we are looking at a house but we would want to open up the downstairs.
Obviously a steel is required to lose the internal walls and we're looking to brick up some of the front of the garage and put a window and regular door in instead of the garage door.
My question is, would you lose the side door into the kitchen? Once its opened up and we have hard floor throughout it seems it would be just as easy to take rubbish etc out the front door, and without it I think the kitchen would work much better.
What do you think?
