Need help with what to do with fireplace.
Comments (40)Hi again! For anyone that's interested, I have finally managed to have a go at my varnished stone fireplace and am pretty happy with the results… It's not perfect but makes a huge difference in terms of light in the room and cost me next to nothing! I used a tiny bit of annie sloan paint to dull and lighten the stone - my mum sent me leftovers of 'paris grey' that she had used on some furniture. The link I had found which described the painting process belonged to an artist, so I was aware that my results would differ quite drastically from hers, but I'm still happy! I also had a new mantlepiece made from old planks that my boyfriend has had stashed away for years - a carpenter we often use put it together for the equivalent of about US$10. We don't own the house so I haven't waxed the paint on the stone (meaning it can be washed off with water and a light scrub) and the new mantlepiece is literally slotted on top of the old one and discreetly screwed in place. It is no huge home improvement project but made a big difference to the feel of the room using minimal time, money and mess… Now just the rest of the room to decorate…!...See MoreYour thoughts on the encaustic cement tile trend?
Comments (30)Hello Kathryn, Encaustic cement tiles need to be sealed before usage. And for regular maintenance PH neutral soap should be used. The following link has several video tutorials and explanations that may help you: http://www.cement-tiles.com/cement-tiles-installation-maintenance/index.php Kind regards, Mosaic del Sur...See MoreBest options for kitchen flooring?
Comments (10)I can see that you’ve had overall a tall bank of units on the back wall which will look great. I’m wondering though if the fridge freezer is really in the right place. A walk from the sink where you fill the kettle, around the island to the FF to then get the milk for the well earned cup of tea. I think I would have wanted it closer. Regarding flooring I’d settle on LVT. Even though you’ll have underfloor heating it’s just nice to have something warm and soft to walk on especially bare footed. Lots of colour choice in LVT....See MoreBought two bookshelves on either side of electric fireplace. Looks yuk
Comments (16)The fire contains quite a lot of yellow and the units are cool, but the walls are actually cool too and look slightly blue/grey. The clash is due to the fact that they are not only different colours but more so that they are equally light. Value contrasts make the biggest difference to a space that looks 'off', this means that if you painted the fieplace wall darker you would lessen the clash (we would notice the dark light contrast over and above the clash of the unit and fire). The back of the units could be painted a dark colour too, it might help. Maybe someone could quickly mock this up, I would but it's not my strong point....See MoreClarice Johnson
