We’re closing in on our kitchen remodel which involves a bigger island with 5 or 6 seats and a change in colours.

We can have any colour J profile door. Thinking a dark grey (hint to brown side) island and sink run with off white or light grey quartz and L shape real wooden (stained oak) bar. And then either a lighter complementary colour or a handled board door like wood /dark concrete effect (something that works with the bar colour)

Any suggestions of Ral colours and/or wooden boards that might work well?

Ive narrowed down the island design to either this (with 500 cupboard facing lounge):

6 seats is great but just wondering whether having the 500 cabinet block might be a nice touch. Or would it look better with the bar running full span?

Could you post a full floorplan of the room please?

And where does the white door lead to? I'd keep sink and hob closer together if that's a traffic area. And your work triangle could perhaps be smaller too.

Sorry... the images just wouldn't save.. eventually discovered editing and saving with one at a time worked!

There are, 99% of the time, many ways to design a kitchen. We don’t sell kitchens, but we design lots and lots - and almost all of these are designed with the end users in on the design process . This might be something that would work for you - to be a part of designing the space - then when the design is complete, you simply shop around and ask places to quote using that same design . Hi, You'll still need to vent to an outside wall, which might not be easy and you shouldn't really go down then back up with the ducting. It need to go down then level through to an outside wall. Other than that you can use charcoal filters, which won't be so effective. Ceiling extractors tend to work a little better though you'll still need to vent to an outside wall, though this is often easier than going the floor route. Hope that all helps ... good luck :))

Hi, not sure if you've dealt with this yet or not (as it was posted 5 months ago). I understand your concern here, and I see that doors across the back wouldn't be possible. I disagree with the architect to install internal stairs, I feel like this would cost a lot and not really work. My suggestion would be, if you were to redesign it architecturally to add the most design impact and potential uplift .. I would install a full width window at eye level (a picture window). You'd basically make the top half of the wall looking out to the garden all glass, so it would open up the view (currently broken with partition between two windows). Would you be redesigning the kitchen also? As I would consider losing the wall cabinets on the right, to provide an undisturbed clear view to the garden. Architecturally this will give you so much impact and completely change the feel of the space. Although I realise this doesn't resolve your access to the garden issue, I hope this helps. Furthermore, if you were to consider redesigning the space entirely, including the kitchen I would consider incorporating some window bench / banquette seating where the cupboards and sink currently are. I haven't got a full floorplan right now! White door is entrance to room. Re sink, yes I know, but we're kind of stuck with it in front of the window... not ideal I realise in terms of work triangle!

Tiles down in whole room so we can’t get water and hot/cold to new location

Ok, I understand, new tiles would be an extra project.

Your floorplan makes no sense to me (off scale), what's the total size? Is the L a sofa? No dining table in there?

Yes! Room is 6.390m long by 5.296 wide. L is a 2.8m long x 1.5m wide sofa. No room for dining table, hence the large seating idea for the island

No dining table anywhere whatsoever? In another room?

What about family dinners? Christmas? Birthdays? You have kids?

(island dining feels so 'sushi bar' to me)

Well, we have a dropleaf table for occasions like that, and ultimately the front room could be a dining room but we have it setup currently as a snug

Could you measure these walls please?

The island will hardly seat 6. As each person requires (60cm width), I managed to fit in 5. Island cabinets are 50+90+60, bar 40cm.

It's a luxurious looking layout, but it's not quite practical.

The only real space to chop vegetables is next to the sink, so you don't want any kettle or coffee machine there. Then you need to walk around the island to put those veggies in your pan. Lots of turning around. And people walking in and out of the room, imagine unloading the dishwasher, for example.

Any other windows/doors in this room? I haven't drawn the nooks and columns you might have, as I don't know their size.

The tall units are built into the wall, but the wall space in front is 0.411m. The wall across doorway is 1.906m

I had around 2.6m wide for island and 1.2m deep so technically is bar is full width it could juts fit 6 (with 2 at end)

I agree about the practicality.. food prep to right of hob (sink side), but you would have to go behind cook to get to fridge, and cook would have to get behind prepper to get to sink (and cuts across entrance passage)

The one with the door? Or the front or back of the tall cabinets? :)

And will you use this room for watching tv a lot? As in my layout the 2.8m sofa will not fit in sideways..

Front of tall cabinets. We do have a 2.8m L sofa in lengthways currently, with a 1.2m island it would leave 0.8m between overhang And sofa

Make sure your main aisles are good.

And with the sofa sideways, you'll gain floorspace, but might need a bigger tv ;)

Yes that’s what I had come up with, but it’s whether you go with the full width bar or have fewer seats and a lounge facling cupboard - to make it more interesting.

We have a 55in and does job! Even watch it from the island!

Without the cabinet. The materials and colors will make it interesting, not a single cabinet.

It's also whether 6 seats at an island is bit OTT for the relatively small space? I've messed around with an idea with 4 seats and 4 x 450 cabinets facing lounge too. The island is going to be for non-food storage (as it's got UFH underneath whereas the other runs don't) so not sure how much of that type of storage we actually need!

...and like you say, it's tight with 6, as technically it's 200 short for everyone to have full 600 width... although when you're actually sitting at the island the person next to the corner (with next 2 seats round the corner) won't really need much space to their left.

2600 really is the absolute max length

The number of seats depend on the amount of people you'd like to seat regularly.

With a family of 4, for example, dining with 6 will occur quite often.
