Kitchen redesign

previous owners dug out sloped garden for a kitchen extension, this means our windows start at bottom of grass! we hate not being able to have patio doors out to garden and digging out garden further is not an option as no digger access. an architecht suggested internal stairs to a door, but cant decide if that would just be strange and costly and eat into kitchen spacezx any innovative solutions?

Hi, not sure if you've dealt with this yet or not (as it was posted 5 months ago).

I understand your concern here, and I see that doors across the back wouldn't be possible. I disagree with the architect to install internal stairs, I feel like this would cost a lot and not really work. My suggestion would be, if you were to redesign it architecturally to add the most design impact and potential uplift .. I would install a full width window at eye level (a picture window). You'd basically make the top half of the wall looking out to the garden all glass, so it would open up the view (currently broken with partition between two windows). Would you be redesigning the kitchen also? As I would consider losing the wall cabinets on the right, to provide an undisturbed clear view to the garden.

Architecturally this will give you so much impact and completely change the feel of the space.

Although I realise this doesn't resolve your access to the garden issue, I hope this helps.

Furthermore, if you were to consider redesigning the space entirely, including the kitchen I would consider incorporating some window bench / banquette seating where the cupboards and sink currently are.

Hello, the breakfast bar is roughly 195cm long, 33cm deep and just over 91cm high, same height as kitchen counters. I went with 2 little cupboards underneath rather than space for 3 stalls, although you can squash 3 people in!

I would be tempted to take the kitchen all the way across into the current Sitting Room which will give you access into the Conservatory and garden, but by doing this would it allow you sufficient space in the current Dining Room which would then be your Lounge? If you make the kitchen/diner a big social area and have sofas in it and also perhaps in the Conservatory too then you could make the new lounge just an occassional room?
