L shaped kitchen redesign help
Any ideas how to redesign this kitchen. We would like more surface to prepare on and a bigger hob. The big cupboard near the window houses the boiler and there is nowhere else for the washing machine to go in the house.
I was thinking os a sink without a draining board and shifting it to where the draining board is.
Another neighbour has under the counter fridge and freezer but I wonder where we could have a drawer for cutlery.
Any ideas welcome! P.s I really dislike the small gap between the cupboard and ceiling.

Comments (9)Hello mrgu1, Well... I'm another! BUT.. What you need is someone who thinks outside the box.. So with that out of the bag... Have you thought about an L shaped Island.... Why not create something that really identifies with the space.. A really slim 600 width island that opens out to a bigger dining portion.. It could even be a series of smaller modular "islands" with a fixed element for dining.. That way you could move things around.. With that run though.. you could easily do away with island altogether and then just focus on the dining table and seating..If you have at least 5m run it's doable! May not be palatial but you could create a larder in the utility area and house the washing machine in one of the 600 cupboard spaces in the cabinet run or situate in the storage area marked if it's wide enough.. You could potentially stack the washer and dryer if you don't want to see them. A lovely one such as a Samsung eco bubble can look very stylish on view! I'd be inclined to consider the idea of opening up the front reception and living area with the addition of french doors or sliding doors that suit the period and style of your home. Comments (19)I prefer the straight run with the bigger island and agree with Karen that the extractor is best on an outside wall, I also think that a 1200 deep island means that people sat on stools shouldn't worry about getting splashed. A couple of questions for me- the space behind the stools.... is the plan correct? You mentioned a large dining space but this space is only 2m so not big enough for a table but it's too wide to ignore. Is there a solid wall there? Also I think the construction of the deeper island is messy- the little cabinets at the side are going to look odd- in my opinion you should just have cabinets under the breakfast bar and support the sides with vertical worktop or with decorative side panels. I also notice the sink is over a 900 unit with a 200 unit next to it. This means that the wall cabinets don't line up but everything else is symmetrical. Whether you put the sink or the hob on this wall I would rather see a 1000 base and a filler at the end of the run..... Comments (12)I think it could be quite cool with the floor. I wouldn’t paint that particular wall a different colour as it will separate the parts of the kitchen, Apologies as I can’t use photoshop at all. I might be tempted to paint that end wall something like charlottes lock by F&B then add a kilim rug with orange and blues but straddling the L shape so it draws your eye down and connects them. Then add art on the left wall. Were you planning on adding a table? I might go with a wooden table or chairs. We have a formal dining area in our living/dining room which is the argument my partner was making but if I had kids I think I would want to keep their food mess separate from the guest area. This is the proposed plan from a kitchen designer, but I think I would put the cooker opposite the sink (to an angle) to create our working triangle....See More- 11 years ago
Here it is listed before we moved in. I took away the back splash and painted it white.
There isn't anywhere else for the boiler and it is for the whole house.
I was thinking grey worktops the only good thing about the current one is that it doesn't show stains!

Here is one that was sold on our street. I like the workbench breakfast bar to the side but not the colour.
