I agree with @Rukmini Patel Interior Design that your space gets valuable natural light that you need to work with it.
Since blue is in your liking, I would go for a blue note on a feature wall, opposite the kitchen (the wall with the clock mounted on it). This would give the space some more interest as well.
Some options of blue to consider:

I would choose neutral colors for the rest of the walls as a combining tool for the grey kitchen, natural wood floor and furniture.

rukmuni thank you for your help. I like the idea of a warmer colour too, what would you suggest that would work with the grey kitchen? And which wall would you out it on? we have a painting we love so need to work out whether that stays where it is or moves to the end wall.

thank you Maggie, we had wondered about painting the end wall, but wasn't sure it would be enough colour as that is a small wall.

I personally would paint the back wall with the clock a darkish green, with a bit of yellow: basically khaki. Would bring the outside in, and such a warm colour which would go well with your lovely new floor, blond wood and your light shade! The rest of the walls could be painted a warm white...

@rukmini Patel interior design yes I have tried it. the colour is a bit light. I was looking for a darker more striking colour. what do you think about De Nimes?

Personally I think the room is absent of pattern. I would either buy curtains and then use them for your colour inspiration or I would choose a wallpaper for the end wall and then use that as colour inspiration.

yes I would like to have some curtains but the window finishes right next to the breakfast bar - unless we had the curtains set to the left.

I think it might be difficult to hang curtains because of the breakfast bar but you could have blinds instead.
A patterned wallpaper might also give you colour inspiration
