Feature/Brick Wall in Kitchen/Dining Area.
Comments (21)From what i'm reading, I think you have only two choices on actual brick walls. The one with the cooker is an outside wall isn't it?? .....and then the one with the clock. Totally depends on how much work you want to make for yourself. If you just want to 'dip a toe', then go for the one with the clock. If you want to go all out then do the one with the cooker and hob. However..........and we have done a few of these now........that is Victorian houses...........Lyme plaster is a pain to work with!. Once you touch one bit 10 minutes later you've got a patch 3'x3', then you get bits that feel like they're welded on! Also, we have found on many of the houses that we have done full renovations on, the Victorians were fond of an 'anything goes' brick size approach! So be prepared to unearth allsorts and more importantly, be prepared to have to re-point most , if not all of the brickwork with Lyme mortar and then seal it! It isn't for the feint hearted. Here's an old Chimney breast that we did a few years ago in an Attic Bedroom. ( Before and After ) and finally ones on a Chimney breast from a different house. That's me in the photo !!! Have fun...See Moreinternal brick wall - what bricks?
Comments (1)Hi. Are you looking at new or reclaimed bricks? Yellow/buff London stock is quite a good choice but there are a few nice ones on here. I'd look at reclaimed ones in any case http://www.cawardenreclaim.co.uk/reclaimed-buff-yellow-bricks-london-stock.html...See MoreConfused by our Victorian internal walls – thoughts?!
Comments (10)I think timber beams were quite often used as part of the wall structure. We had to take an external wall back in our living room due to dry rot (not from said beams!) and it had the same construction as yours. Horse hair was (and think still is!) used to strengthen lime plaster and prevent shrinkage https://folio.brighton.ac.uk/user/as620/victorian-building-analysis...See MoreHow to paint an internal rendered wall?
Comments (0)I would like advice on how to paint an internal living room wall that has been taken back to the rendered scratch coat, circa 1947. This is to negate having the wall re-plastered and subsequently becoming a feature wall. What prep does it require & can I use the same interior emulsion that I would use on the other plastered walls? Thanks in advance. James...See MoreRibena Drinker
