advice re living room colour/layout/flooring
Comments (7)With regards to colour, One solution would be a neutral palatte for the walls with colour added by way of natural material and textures; a timber floor being an ideal starting point. There are lots of opportunities from lighting, wall art and other accessories to add colour such as the kitchen/living design below where we kept the walls and units white but added copper lighting, timber shelving, flooring and furniture to enliven the space....See MoreLiving room furniture lay-out advice
Comments (10)Hi Clair, It is indeed a very tricky room with all the doorways around and the need to keep flow. The best in these cases is usually to go for flexible pieces of furniture that can be moved around easily to adjust the room to your needs, so I'm afraid that an L shaped sofa might not be the best choice as you mention yourself no matter how you look at it you might be disrupting a flow somewhere. Poufs, Ottomans, Small vintage nursing chairs (these are on wheels so can be moved around), are all great options. For example this picture where the poufs are placed under the coffee table and can be taken out when additional seating or even side tables are required. Comments (9)There are plug sockets on every wall, two on the wall with the bit that comes out where the fireplace used to be, the layout image is just what I took from the estate agents listing for my house when I bought it :) I love the idea of adding the fireplace back in! I wasn't sure if it would make the room feel smaller or not but that inspiration image looks great...See MoreAdvice needed on layout for living room
Comments (5)Here's what I would do: Place the TV to the right of the fireplace, and arrange the main seating area at that end of the room. I'd place a 7-8' sofa on the long wall facing the french doors, and add two club chairs at a right angle to the sofa facing the fireplace and TV. Then add a coffee table/ottoman and occasional tables on either side of the sofa. At the other end of the room, you could have a round game table with chairs, or a reading nook or a piano, depending on what you like to do in the room besides watch TV. I'd also remove the lighting fixtures, carpet and window coverings. Do you know what is under the carpet? It would be wonderful if there were wood floors!...See MoreWill Gallegos
