Open plan living - feels cold!
Hi there
looking to change the living end of my Open plan living/kitchen/dining room. I’ve marked the walls id like to redecorate In the pic below.
the whole room is painted in Wimborne white and the kitchen has dark grey units with a white marble top. I feel like this section of the room feels a little cold and I would like to make it more cosy. Not sure whether to use a textured wallpaper in the same neutral colour as existing or whether to go for a pattern or contrasting colour?

Comments (13)I agree with many of the suggestions above, especially that there's too much furniture in the living room. You're going to hate me for saying this but I think there's too much clutter and busyness overall for such a small space. I'd radically reduce the number of pictures and knick-knacks in both rooms – especially the living room – and move the ones you keep to less prominent places. I'd also take the coat rack and cookery bookshelves out completely, and replace the busy parquet flooring with either not-busy plank laminate or a simple-patterned or solid rug. Comments (17)I love the idea of the duck egg blue and yellow adding a pop of colour to the white. I'd play it up a bit more and go for deep and bold jewel tones of teal, sapphire, plum and burgundy, mixed with a few of the more delicate neutral pillows you have. I think little pops of gold would do nicely with the jewel tones and match the yellow you already have. I'd definitely continue the idea of the sheepskin throw and maybe introduce a similar rug to bring some warmth and texture to the floor -perhaps a warmer beige. I think large black and white photographs of your preference would go nicely on the blank wall -perhaps flanked by some floating bookshelves to showcase any decorations that might bring more warmth and personality to the room....See MoreHelp! Comments (13)You have a lovely home to work with. I would say don't underestimate mirrors for making a room look twice as big. Have you considered giant mirrors, or mirroring an entire wall? How about the curved wall? I would pay attention to lighting also, as great lighting can make your home look a million dollars and more spacious. I would make a focal point with television resting on a gorgeous storage cabinet, place wall picture frames on wall where tv is placed, this will draw attention to the art and cabinet rather than the tv itself. I would get highback armchairs and use them for both dining and lounge seating with a sofa. I like those Victorian card tables on wheels, that fold up, multipurpose. Only buy furniture you absolutely love, don't follow trends, follow your heart, after all you want to feel good at home. Don't be half-hearted follow your dreams, be confident. Comments (10)Thank you for your response. We had plans pretty finalised until we found out that we can keep just that long wall into the large space as it is a load-bearing. There is an opportunity to put a door in though. I am attaching what it looked like with all the walls that we can now remove. We have also been tinkering with ideas which I am adding as well. I added some comments on the plans as well. What we want to have is a dining area with a large table that seats 8-10 people. We want enough space for two people to work and cook in the kitchen. Thus, we were thinking of an island or an L-shape workspace coming out. We'd like to have a utility room to have space for all the cleaning utensils. Washer and Dryer will be upstairs in a separate laundry room. The living room is nothing formal but an area to relax and watch TV. just to give you a visual: lowered the TV, gave you a lamp and a larger rug that isn't beige, and added some art. You could add orange or charcoal or a darker taupe. Doesn't have to be navy, but that's what I found when I did a quick search. And blue does go well with taupes/beige. Hope it helps.
