Kitchen cooker splash back or tile all around?
Comments (14)We vote tiles! If it was my kitchen (and mostly because I'm a messy cook) I would be inclined to tile (or glass backsplash) anywhere that might need to be wiped down-e.g. behind cooker, along any counters where I might be doing any food prep. This gives you plenty of options-you could tile behind cooker and counters in metro/subway tiles, but be careful as it could look busy with the granite and wood grain of kitchen-it will depend on the grout. Alternatively, you could use big clean glossy tiles like this marble look above....See Morekitchen backsplash help
Comments (4)An upstand sits on the worktop and is around 4" high. A splashback normally fits behind the hob area to prevent splashes ruining the wall. You can have one or both fitted....See MorePainting kitchen tiles...yes or no?!
Comments (4)Thanks to everyone who made suggestions and gave advice here, and sorry for the massive delay (baby, building site, 9 weeks...we're finally home!). I actually took the risk and painted after further research on good tile paint, and after every stockist in the UK of those bar/finger tiles sold out with a massive backlog and months to wait (yes, I should have ordered at the time). So I thought I'd share the before and after and the paint I used... I bought the rather naff coloured tile from Tiles Direct for £3.99 sqm, painted with V33 wall tile and panelling paint using a mohair roller. It took 4 coats but the result is great (I think) and although there were times I was like 'ugh, why didn't I just order the damn white ones', it did come out well for a fraction of the cost, and at the right time without waiting for deliveries in to the UK. The finish is matt and quite 'acrylicy' and tough, if that's even a thing, apparently all good with kitchens, heat, water etc. so easy to clean and robust. On a totally separate note, we used engineered cork flooring and they are FAB, would highly recommend and designed for kitchens and bathrooms. Got them from www.corkflooring.co.uk Bear with the work in progress of the photos, and sadly the only delay we did suffer was to our worktops, which are thankfully being delivered this week... Before... After... In situ......See MoreKitchen Backsplash
Comments (13)Hi Adrian, thanks for the details - love the Caraz! Absolutely on trend colour, and a nice calm, sophisticated palette. Always amazes me just how much influence ambient light has, as the pictures show both to be even warmer in reality. With that info, I think I'd still be opting for white/off-white close to your worktop colour - on, if suitable, using the worktop material as a splashback, but you'd need to check with the manufacturer on suitability close to gas flame. Not all would be permissible. An alternative would be to go with whatever you have picked as flooring tile, if available in large enough size, then cut & edge to suit. Now that large format tiles are becoming so popular, we're finding clients opting for this more frequently, to add a bit more texture compared to flat, plain glass....See More- 6 years ago
