Thanks - a couple more questions:

1. Is that a finished wall colour, or plaster pre-painting? If the latter, what paint colour were you proposing?
2. Tricky to tell the colour of the units from the pics - is it a light green or is there a little more blue in them?

If that is the finished wall colour, I think I would be tempted to go white to tone in with the worktop - white & light greens is bang o trend and will always look crisp & fresh.

If you were painting the walls white, then I'd do something different for the splashback - metallic light grey or something darker that toned with your handles even. You could have a bold splash of colour, but I think I'd keep it restrained, as you have lovely views from your windows which is what I'd be wanting as the main feature!

Thanks for your reply. The walls are painted with Plascon Castle Stone and the cabinets are wrapped with PG Bison's Caraz Matt.

Hi Adrian, thanks for the details - love the Caraz! Absolutely on trend colour, and a nice calm, sophisticated palette. Always amazes me just how much influence ambient light has, as the pictures show both to be even warmer in reality.

With that info, I think I'd still be opting for white/off-white close to your worktop colour - on, if suitable, using the worktop material as a splashback, but you'd need to check with the manufacturer on suitability close to gas flame. Not all would be permissible.

An alternative would be to go with whatever you have picked as flooring tile, if available in large enough size, then cut & edge to suit. Now that large format tiles are becoming so popular, we're finding clients opting for this more frequently, to add a bit more texture compared to flat, plain glass.

The worktops are a pure white quartz which I think might discolour from the heat behind the cooker. I would also need to order a full sheet which would be quite costly. Using floor tiles would be easy enough as I still have a couple of boxes available and they are 600mm x 600mm.

Would you recommend tiling the entire wall behind the cooker up to the bottom of the wall cabinets of just behin the cooker to the bottom of the extractor (still to be installed)?

My wife likes the tiles below, but I'm not so sure. What do you think?

As you have upstands, I'd suggest you only put the splashback behind the cooker up to the extractor.

They’re nice but personally find them a bit busy but it’s what you like that matters!

i’m not sure where you're tiling given the upstands but your wall looks like a muted peach on my screen, not sure what you think of these if you like pattern?

As others have indicated, I'd probably only go up to your extractor. If conventional, these are normally set about 750mm above the worktop - if angled, then lower.

The tiles your wife likes are certainly nice and look as though the shades go, but will make your kitchen look a little more traditional and "country" than the skinny shaker doors might suggest. @minnie101's suggestion will give a fresher, more contemporary feel. If I am correct, they are "Glass House" from Ca Pietra - my favourite "high end" tile company, and their tiles are always beautiful! Check out their Gendurgan Fern too, which we've used for splashbacks.
