agree. art would look better over the sofa (hung 4-6 up from the back) and try the mirror over the buffet.

The mirror is perfect where it is but you could change the color of the chandelier to gold so that it better coordinates with the mirror.

I think the mirror is too tall and not wide enough, to fit over the sofa.

A piece of art would look better

are you opposed to painting the gold frame? how does it clash w/the buffet? could you tone down the gold to another shade?

Both mirror and art are oversized for the space..if you have smaller pieces I would try them..if not the way you have them now is not unacceptable...the colors and aesthetic of both are perfect as they are now placed...

Due to the look of the room and without knowing how you use it i think the space would be more cohesive with a floor length table cloth..giving that element a little more weight to balance better with the other largish pieces....

Aaaand don’t stress your self ....this is getting better....as well as the large chandelier will look more in scale with the added table cloth as well...

hadn't thought of a table cloth. I'll have to try it. I'm losing the mirror, but the art will need to stay.

Unless you hate it stay with the mirror for the sake of the balance of the room....and another pic of the room from behind the table showing the other end of the room will enlighten us a little more...

They are not oversized,............people just get used to buying items that can fit in their small trunks. Keep the mirror over the buffet,.........but it's too bad the person in the chair has to shout across the room for a conversation.

btw, sometimes I look at the initial post after I post - and yes, that is a dog!

At first i thought the white chair arm was another white dog...😩

Could you possibly keep the mirror in the room and just move it from having something beneath it? Maybe off Center it next to the sofa on the left or next to the buffet?

I like the mirror over the furniture piece much better and with the right lighting and accessories it could work. The gold in the lamps harmonize with the mirror and heavier lamps to balance the furnishings and wood. Happy designing.

I see your point. I especially like the lamps you picked out. I think that I will return the mirror and find one that more easily blends in and will make future changes easier. now back to the drawing board for a mirror. any ideas?

I like this lamp because the clear glass moves it more “transitional” and keeps it lighter in this smaller space but the shape is a more traditional look so best of both worlds. On sale now too. Make sure to measure depth of your buffet. The shade should have an inch or two of space.

The lamp is from Pottery Barn and this is one you can select different shades for. So get white, sized to fit the buffet.

You will need a shade too. The above was just the base. They have several shade sizes. You want as wide as your buffet allows and enough height to be balanced and drop down enough to hide switch light bulb etc. 🌴

Just a little tip for future posts..if you are using a new mirror that can be returned..and you really dont like it ...include that in your post...many times people are assuming it is something you own and liked and are trying to use before having to get a new one...a lot of time was wasted here when that info could have led to a completely different direction

Gee that is such a beautiful mirror. So what are you considering instead? Another mirror? If so, what is height from buffet top to top of next trim/soffit on that wall? Anthropologie has some beautiful mirrors.

Keep the mirror. Why bother returning. Flo gave you a great way to make it work. It’s beautiful.

the buffet is 19" and an inch or so from the wall. I do love the mirror, but in person, it just seems

to dominate the small room. It's not the size - maybe it's just too 'grand' for my abode -or the color. I have 47" to the soffit and the buffet is 75" wide.

With that size buffet, you can’t go dainty! It is your focal point wall. This is in a living room right? I really believe, once you get it hung and properly sized accessories as I showed you, it will be spectacular!

Speaking of “grand”, I think your buffet is “grand”. You can’t wimp out with small stuff over this piece. It is beautiful.

Personal opinion - it doesn't work so well. It looks like it is propped on the couch. Hopefully, this isn't how it would be permanently displayed. It is too vertically oriented. If you do install it behind the sofa I would suggest adding some other elements on each side to give the entire composition a more horizontal look. Good luck!

Flos mock up for mirror and buffet is spot on. Follow her lead here. I wont add anything to that. However you need to pull the chair to the right of the buffet forward and angle it into the room. All of your furniture pushed against the edges of the room is making the perimeter "heavy" which is adding to your feeling of what is an appropriate sized mirror, seem out of scale.

Create some depth. I would also add an upholstered ottoman/cocktail table with a tray and some decorative items into the space to soften the expanse between the side board and the sofa.
