Ha! an idea...one of our houses, the bungalow, is up for sale with Verity Frearson estate agents in harrogate & may give you an idea of what I have done to it. Its been up for sale for 3 weeks & we have 3 buyers in waiting (with houses to sell.) Its on their website & is 18 leadhall drive. When we bought it, it had upvc doors, & caravan windows at the front for privacy. At the back it had a utility room & a warren of little rooms with small windows commanding the best views of the south facing garden. The green in the bedroom photo isn't qyite as vile as it may look in the photo. If i did it again I would probably use steel/ aluminium windows at the back. I also love just one large picture window too. the doors internally, where they are not glass double doors, are the dordogne doors from Howdens which are very reasonable & add seem to suit many styles of houses rather than the usual panelled door. Mine are painted but they can be left wooden. we have another house, a victorian town house, but this is our favourite as it is like being on holiday each morning even in winter.

You can probably get them made at any kitchen cabinet place, or make them yourself if you can with plywood - they're just rectangular boxes. Or check your local listings for a handyman if you can't. The two latter will obviously be less expensive and end up fitting better in the room.

Hi Claire, You have a lovely space to work with and it’s great to hear that you’re up for doing a bit of DIY! In regards to the coffee table, go for it! It’s a lovely design and will complement the characteristics of the room perfectly. I’d dress the table with a gorgeous green plant - not only will this add vibrant colour, but also adds life to your space and is guaranteed to make you smile. As suggested by Minnie, a floor standing plant situated underneath your fitted wall shelves will add a feature to this corner of your room. If you fancy doing a little bit of painting, why not head to your nearest charity shop and find a sweet side table to place to the left of your sofa or either side of your armchair? Choose your favourite Dulux paint colour (in a Satinwood finish) and paint your table to add a personalised touch to your space! This will create such a lovely statement as you enter the room, especially if you choose a beautiful blue to create that coastal look. Adding a side lamp to the side table will add height and a lovely ambiance to your room, especially in the evenings when you’re snuggled up watching TV. I love Overtly Olive. Everything in your kitchen is a bit too cream so I understand why you fancy a change. Green goes wonderfully with cream and white. Farrow & Ball greens are nice too, I’ve got Cromarty in my sitting room, after wanting to change from cream. Go for it!
