Spruce up my basic room

Hey I am moving into this room for my next year at Uni and it has really basic furniture and red carpet, what can I do to make it a bit more appealing? What goes with bright red carpet!?

Comments (20)The shelf above your sofa is a key space to add some colour or some statement pieces that would bring your room to life. I assume you can see that shelf as you look down from the kitchen to the sitting room. Firstly, I would stand the books on the shelf vertically and have the plant pot by the side, this would give some more height. Have a look at our project boards for some art print ideas and you can find some bargain frames from ikea and most supermarkets, this will make that shelf space look really special. Comments (1)Hello! This room is really small and since you use it for storage/office I would not advise you to go too brave with colours as they might make the room look and feel smaller. I know it might sound dull but I@d advise you to use white all over and either have mirrored doors covering the shelves you have there or a mirrored wall right in front of the desk, that will definitely make the room look bigger. Also, use plants because they add freshness as well as colour to the room and they're very relaxing. Most people don't realise that color can be added in many different ways not only on walls...sometimes the details can't be more striking such as a white room with a mirrored wall and a really striking office chair - orange, green, etc - plants, flowers, artwork, all can used to make a room colourful. 4 years agoI agree with Daisy that a rug will be a good idea, to break up the red. Don't know what kind of style you like, but my first thought was: go Bohemian.
