Comments (7)That joint is rubbish and he's ruined the worktops i'm afraid. This should of been a 'masons mitre' joint which is standard work for any kitchen fitter. Even with square edged worktop a mitred joint has to be done. Also if you look underneath you should see 2 but ideally 3 worktop bolts fitted in keyhole slots. If he hasn't got a router and worktop jig to do this then he shouldn't be touching worktops. Colofill is good but it won't solve that joint. With the right equipment and done properly a laminate worktop joint should be virtually invisible, smooth along the joint and the joint is bolted together so tight that it squeezes the colorfill (jointing compond) out as its tightened, not gaps of 2mm or more. If he considers this to be acceptable I'd have a good look round the rest of his work and start a snagging list before you pay any money. Good luck with your 'fitter'...See MoreJoin in quartz worktop
Comments (18)I still think it could have been narrower and neater but taken from further back it adds some perspective, It's annoying when installers don't mention the details like the width of the joint so that you can decide if that's acceptable to you or not. It doesn't sound as though they will budge on the issue though. I found this, it might help you for comparison purposes. https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/topic/6555-quartz-worktop-joint-is-this-acceptable/...See MoreI don't know where to get quartz worktops?
Comments (2)Honestly, I’ve been hearing Monolux mentioned quite a lot recently as well, especially from people doing kitchen refurbs in the Midlands. I haven’t personally used them yet, so I can’t give a proper long-term review, but I did spend ages looking through their site and project photos when we were comparing quotes. From what I saw, the finish on the quartz and the joints actually looked really clean compared to some of the cheaper companies we checked. A couple of the before/after installs looked surprisingly professional for the price point, too....See More- 6 years ago
